I didn't read the wall of text above in either the article or the first comment, but I know that the loss on JIN stock in GNK possession is accounted for on their balance sheet already, it will not be recorded on the income statement until they make a sale at either a loss or a gain, but from an asset and equity position, it is already accounted for.

The good news was the delivery of the ship. Not the contract rate. The rate was negotiated months ago as someone else said. The previous guidance from Genco was that the ship would not be delivered till 2009. The delivery on time was a "surprise" that may have bounced the stock.
Once again - 0 due to the contract, much due to the fact that the contract will be honored.
the good one - Do your own research. Never trust an article or author who can't spell the company name that he is talking about (Gen*k*o Shipping). *sigh*
Natasha Boyden from Cantor I think was drunk. Why did she keep insisting that there should be scrapping in the industry? I thought the comments about the industry to take away from the call were the figures concerning new builds. Looks like 08 will be behind, along with 09.

Correct gaucho. There are a lot of "temporary supply" and "temporary demand" issues that can effect BDI. Many ships are contracted out in 3-7 year deals. So though there are "6500 ships out there", there are significantly less be chartered out at a given time.
Message boards have speculated there there has been a manipulation for a long time. I was always very skepitcal of this talk, but maybe it turns out it is true. Anyway, it's impossible to manipulate markets long term without monopoly. I have faith in economics and long term prospects of these shippers.
