ARM Processors Will Gain 55% of Netbook Market by 2012 [View article]
Mr. Castellano is certainly missing a lot here, and I agree with the previous comments. Infact, Atom will evolve quickly and is probably well ahead of the ARM chips at this point for netbook applications. One point to add is that INTC has needed to broaden its portfolio for a long time. Several attempts have been made. However, Atom may be the best bet yet and I'm sure the managers will be focused on not letting this space slip away. So expect redoubled efforts, leveraged by their mainstream product line.

So why shouldn't I interpret this analysis as a signal to buy small caps, because they have more ground to cover? That is, it appears to be 'too late' in this cycle to buy the large cap leaders.

Turn around suggestion for SBUX: The regular drip coffee is so variable and usually bad, unless I want a latte I go to MCD, where the (drip) coffee is universally predictably good. SBUX needs to get the basics correct (at least one regular drip that has a predictable flavor every hour every day), before they worry about the sugared up treats.
I must be the only one not to get the TIP strategy. As I see it, TIP provides a lower yield in return for a yield adjustment based on the prevailing inflation rate. But every diversified portfolio includes a stock component that also serves as an inflation hedge. Further, most people have a small (25% ?) target allocation for bonds such as TIP's. So, the explicit inflation hedge of the TIP doesn't hedge very much (when compared to an equity which typically has the pricing power to adjust for inflation).
So I would never recommend holding a TIP as an inflation hedge or as a fixed income security. Can someone explain the error I'm making?
