  • I'm Adding More SALSA To This Super-Sized Big Mac-Daddy Of REIT-Dom [View article]
    Pendragon;
    It is not panic selling or "accurately predicting the future." It is really refusing to fight the market and the trend. It is also a matter of time horizon. I am nearly 72 and may not have as much time as many others to wait around for another cycle. So, the bottom line is, everyone must do what he/she believes best for him/her. All the best, bzl14

    I hope you are right and when the interest rates go up Riets and MLPs will not get hurt too much. But then, recent history is telling us otherwise. All the best. bzl14

    Rumors of the past few months about Fed "tapering down" has caused enormous loss' to Riets and MLPs. Therefore, it seems clear that any (real or rumored) increase in the interest rates by Fed during the next couple of years (which is nearly certain) will hurt these investments. Thus, IMO, depending on one's timeline horizon, if one is looking strictly for dividend income, they will get paid handsomely. On the other hand, if one is looking for total return, then, the experience of the past few months clearly shows that these investments will be disappointing--for the next few years anyway. For the reasons stated above, I am looking for opportunity to reduce my exposure to these investment-- no matter how good they sound. Long, STAG, O,OHI,ARCP, MPW,LSE & VNQ. Good luck to all, bzl14

    Chuck you have not missed anything. Peter Schif is, IMO, perma bear on $--which has not panned out well during the past 5 years... BTW, thank you for all of these great articles. Re smaller banks, CBF is amongst very few that BAC has a "buy" rating on it with a target of $23. May be worth checking out. I have no position on it. All the best

  • Potash Corp: A Good Way To Take Advantage Of Industry Turmoil [View article]

    Thanks very much for your reply and site reference. I am not an agroengineer, however, it seems that this technology will have a tremendous affect on potish industry's sale of nitrogen related fertilizers . To this end, here is a quote from your referenced site:
    " ...These can either be supplied by decaying matter, nitrogen fixing bacteria, animal waste, or through the agricultural application of purpose made fertilizers." I am not certain how much of the potish industries business relates to the production of nitrogen, or what percentage of their profits comes from it, one way or other, IMO, this new technology will have a major affect on the industry. All the best, bzl14

    The new N-Fix technology developed by the University of Nottingham and licensed to Azotic Technologies Ltd is a game changer. The fertilizer industry will never be the same! This technology allows plants to get their nitrogen needs from the air--i.e. no need for fertilizer. IMO, drop on all fertilizer producing companies' stock price had a lot to do with this announcement (made on 7-26-2013) than anything else. Here is the Azotic Technology's site: http://bit.ly/135r9AP

    Nice article. I am wondering how much of their mortgage backed securities are Pre 2007-if any? If they do hold some, maybe that could be part explanation for higher book value. Just wonder. All the best, bzl14

  • Our First Quarter Retirement Income Portfolio Review [View article]
    Alex;

    I also do some put selling but not on my IRA account because in IRA accounts they lock 100% of stock's price. Otherwise no naked put selling is allowed in IRA accounts. I generally keep enough $ in my account to cover the possibility of being forced to buy the stock, but, at the same time, it takes away the freedom to write more puts-if you wanted. You can always cover the losing put...It is all a matter of risk tolerance. All the best, bzl14

  • Insurance Stock ETFs For Higher Interest Rates [View article]
    Excellent article. As it is clear that the rates will be going up during the next couple of years, it is nice to know that there are solid investments that retirees may invest without the risk of losing their (our) shirts. It seems that a lot of retirees have moved towards MLPs and REITs to earn better returns. However, the recent noise (or rummer) of possible rate hike caused 15-20% decline on even the best of those investments. I had not thought of the fact that the insurance industry may benefit from the possible rate hike. Thank you for flagging it out. I wish, and hope, there will be more articles--comments--po... out other possible beneficiaries of the eventual rate hike. All the best, bzl14

  • Weighing The Week Ahead: What Do Higher Interest Rates Mean For Stocks? [View article]
    You are forgetting that our debt is in U.S. $ and we have got the $ printing press. So we will never "default". Rather, we may cause devaluation. And that will work to our advantage. Beside, China's economy needs our market more than we need their money... All the best, bzl14
