As long as local govs take action immediately and the media doesn't send the public into a panic, cutting back on costs and just being smarter about spending (but not eliminating it) should keep the economy stable. I also think local businesses can help much more than they realize by creating condensed work weeks, work from home positions, and so on to help eliminate some commuting time!
