  • The Biggest Threat To Activsion Blizzard [View article]
The problem with the F2P game model is its player retainability is rather short. As a gamer myself and "old school" of course, F2P means a plethora of issues encompassed within the game, such as constant head aches dealing with bugs, security loppholes and ways to cheat the system, constant headaches dealing with the micro transactions that give players an edge to progress further, faster, and farther in the game, and constant headaches of over population and under population per servers; there's just no balance to a F2P game.

Small start up companies or well established companies trying to catch their niche in MMO games are being forced to go the F2P due to the lack of support from the community and being over shadowed by already established gaming giants like $ATVI, $SNE, $EA during their initial Pay-to-Play; Tabula Rasa, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Lord of the Rings Online, Star Wars the Old Republic, etc. All started out with a pay-to-play moving to F2P and dying shortly there after. Aside from Star Wars which seems to be keeping their player base at a steady rate, player bases dwindle at a higher rate because of the issue identified above.

This brings me to my last point; quality. The quality of a game is what keeps players engrossed and excited about a game keeps players paying. ATVI has done an excellent job in setting the standard of games world-wide and delivering what players want in a timely fashion. I do not believe that ATVI will be dying anytime soon. Their loyalty base far surpasses big named companies based solely on their quality of products and timely deliverance.
