  • 3D Systems: Another Miss Or Warning Could Be Lethal [View article]
At least one reads a lot of "funny stuff" on SA!
The AM technology is here to stay.
Nobody knows, who will be the winner in the long run. I am pretty sure that 3D and SSYS will be around for a while. And if the shorts get tired of betting. my long-bet becomes a nice bet for my grandchildren.

  • 3D Systems: A Merger With Either Hewlett-Packard Or Epson Is Possible [View article]
HP in the consumer segment: Likely
HP in the prosumer segment: ???
HP in the industrial segment: Unlikely
HP must have a very, very interesting strategic plan outlining, how HP is going to battle the existing players, having the 3 basic options:
1: Price, i.e. mass production (what mass?)
    2: Marketing...(doesn't Work good in hi-tec)
3: R&D (in what segment?...and WHO's week in this segment?)
...maybe tablets is a good alternative after all!

  • H-P to make 3D printer announcement in June, promises breakthroughs [View news story]
Off and on you get the funniest reaction on what is basically good news: If and when HP put their muscles behind a transformative technology as 3D, the growth projections of this market becomes even more interesting......and all players will benefit. Hugely.
    Don't sell, buy!

  • 3D Systems: On The Road To Fair Value [View article]
Here's the conventional look at goodwill:
"This means that 3D Systems have paid dearly for its acquisitions and that goodwill might be subject to impairment in the future."
Answer: The DDD goodwill is not the result of one single transaction, but of a whole range of transactions, so even if a couple of these transactions fails, the total goodwill will not be affected in a significant way. And until now, DDD has a pretty good track record when it comes to managing acquisitions in a competent way. I don't see any reason why this competence should vanish.

  • 3-D Printing: No Barrier To Future Losses For Investors [View article]
During my long long industrial career I have often been sitting looking out of the window reflecting on the incident - back in 1950 I think it was - when my cousin got into an almost physical argument with his dad, my uncle, who simply refused to buy a Ferguson tractor, as his horses had served him well over his time.
I built my career on the conclusion: If there is a disruptive technology out there you better get hold of it and figure out how to make money out of it before somebody else does.

  • 3-D Printing Stock ExOne: 2014 Outlook [View article]
    Fine article!
Disregarding all the financial anlysis, XONE is pursuing a strategy which is just "spot-on" from the industri's point of view. A lot of bright industrial engineers just needs to get the grip on the software, and the logistic guys will just love to see the inventory fade away. The future is bright for the industry....and XONE.

  • 3D Systems: A Great Company For The Long-Term That Is Currently Overvalued [View article]
Victor, there is no doubt that 3D's CEO is a great "preacher of the gospel". What I'm aiming at is not the industry insiders, but the outsiders, those CEO's in the various industries that will have to relate to the AM technology. Continuous productions (paper, foil, nonwoven etc.) will not be affected as will batch productions (mechanical, castings etc.) but no matter which industry the company is operating in, cost/benefit analysis has to be made....including the cost/saving of inventory as well as JIT-delivery.
My point is, that a lot of the discussions taking place here on SA misses the "real world", i.e. the investments in 3D hardware that, at the end of the day, is going to determine the value of these 3D stocks.
(The consumer-oriented part of 3D is another and totally different story.)
(And by the way: ONVO is not a 3D company, they don't sell 3D machines/hardware.)
