      Commodities Prices: Speculation Exposed
Good explanation A. Isn't the argument though, that if speculators are bidding up the futures prices in between expiry, that the spot market is kinda forced to go with the current? The guy selling a house next door to me has nothing to do with the price I'm willing to sell my house for, but of course it does effect what price I can get.

      Commodities Prices: Speculation Exposed
I heard that discussion and it is exactly what you are saying A, yet the question remains, if speculators are the cause and they can't manipulate prices higher because at expiration "it all comes out in the wash", than why are prices so high? He was being asked by a guest on the show about if a long and a short agree to roll the contracts forward and not take delivery, to which Santelli really couldn't answer. I got the feeling Santelli was getting fed a line by his people on the floor, but didn't completely understand it himself.

Just how many contracts come due each month for delivery and at what price are they coming due. The answer to the price question has got to be at whatever price the market is bearing since we have seen no wild swings in price at expiry, than it seems the argument that speculators can't ultimately control the market is still not working.

What triggered a DUG purchase for me was a ton of smart money talking heads and publications are starting to say how they think oil is going to $150 - $200. They could be right, but whats the saying, sell when most are buying and buy when most are.......

The Importance of Stock Picking, Illustrated in Oil
Does anybody really need to be told that some stocks in an industry/sector will under perform? I agree with what you are saying CrossProfit, I just don't get the article, as it was titled. When the title of an article is "The importance of Stock Picking", it implies that actively picking individual issues is somehow better than buying ETFs, indexing, whatever. Since most readers of Seeking Alpha are already convinced of the importance of picking stocks, who is this article trying to educate?
