  • Solazyme: Why This Green Company Looked To The Oil Fields [View article]
Snake- I also appreciate your pragmatism, snd thr discussion that follows. I think you have raised some valid points (many of which have been addressed), and Longs that don't consider all arguments sre doing themselves a disservice. Thanks to all for the great discussion, these threads are what makes SA great.

Love their tech and pipeline, hate this latest round of dilution. Beyond the fact that it was a total butcher job (priced at 20% below market, seriously?!?!), they have tons of cash and we still have NO CLUE what they need this additional $100m for.

Staying long and may even buy on the dip, but unless we get some news soon that MERS was fast-tracked or something, IMO someone's head should roll for this one.

Long NVAX and holding for now

I have a small long position in NVAX and I think they have a great-looking tech, but I agree with nthurster... what do they need the money for? Didn't they just dilute 6 months ago? They also have a TON of partnership revenue for a developmental small cap biotech. I wonder if something else is in the pipe (good or bad...)

Looks like Solazyme is giving a presentation at the Cowen Tech conference tomorrow, what are you all putting the over/under on a Moema update at?

He's not saying that all unethical companies are Chinese, he is saying that a larger-than-normal percentage of Chinese companies are unethical.

FWIW I don't think it is racist to notice patterns in the way business is done, as long as there is evidence to back them up.

    Also long NVAX

First a patent approval last week and now some good-looking data... how does this stock keep falling? Is the biotech industry really hurting that bad all around?

Kevin- looks like Bunge is now loooking to sell its Brazilian sugar business... any thoughts on what this might mean for Moema? Do you see Solazyme as a potential suitor?

Great real estate analogy :) Please note that I am not defending Ike's demeanor (which is just as inflammatory as anyone else I've seen on this site), nor do I agree with his opinions- I am just hoping that cooler heads will prevail.

I really do believe in this company for all the reasons Kevin and other have already stated, and I have believed in them for a long time... this is why I would rather see Solazyme discussion stand on the merits of the facts rather than have these articles devolve into flame wars reminiscent of the GALE and PLUG long vs. short arguments (I actually made good money on both of those stocks by riding them up and getting out before the fall, but the emotion behind all camps involved has taken them beyond the realm of rationality for the time being).

You are absolutely right about Ike's misconceptions being indicative of the broader market, but I don't think that PLUG-esque "long vs. short" flame wars will help enlighten the masses.

Nothing against KQ, like I said I have done my own DD on Solazyme (following the tech since before the IPO) and I pretty much agree with the general consensus here that this company is a rocket ship about to launch. I just don't see why everyone has to jump all over some internet guy just because he doesn't agree. At best, Ike is helping you all do your DD by making you look stuff up on your own, and at worst he is an irrelevant rambling internet man who may/may not be getting paid.

Also I don't really think he is a closet Long, I just pretend he is since every "point" he raises gets a rational response here and strengthens the long case.

Everybody here trashing Ike needs to step back and chill out for a minute. For the record I am Long SZYM and pretty much agree with Kevin and most of you on this board, and the best way to show this is by demonstrating the rationale for the Long case (which many of you have done), not by personal accusations (which some of you have stooped to). Whether or not "Ike" is a paid shill is just as irrelevant as whether or not Kevin Quon is. When he brings up critical points (some less accurate than others) the best response is to do the necessary DD and provide rational counterpoints, and kudos to those of you that have done that.

FWIW whenever I read Ike posts, I just imagine that he is secretly a SZYM Long who like to play devil's advocate and is just testing to see if the rest of us have done our DD instead of relying solely on SA articles :)

  • Solazyme's Algal Oil Is Sought To Replace Palm Oil [View article]
I honestly think that the announcement of the Mitsui deal was at least as big a positive as the early opening of Clinton. For Solazyme, this could be to industrials what Unilever could be to consumer goods...
