  • Did BlackBerry Sell 200,000 Passports Or A Million?  [View article]
That doesn't explain why it is taking so long to fulfill orders, and why retailers are continually running out of stock. Restocking should be overnight if they are simply drawing from existing supply.

  • BlackBerry's Death Has Been Greatly Exaggerated  [View article]
I don't care what anyone else thinks. I just ordered a Z30 because it's the phone that I have decided on as the best device based on my personal preference. I think BlackBerry will need to rely on grassroots support and personal experience since the mainstream sources have convinced the broader market that the new BlackBerry devices are little more than warmed over Bold 9900s. Those who look deeper will discover some real gems, since the current devices are quite good.

Freddy, I agree with the sentiment of most of your comments, but why do so many of your comments sound homophobic? It distracts from some otherwise rational opinions and points.

  • God Help Me, I Woke Up With A Long Position In BlackBerry  [View article]
Big wins come from stocks that *used* to be dogs. Sometimes there are losses, but that's all part of the game. My BBRY gamble is less than 1% of my portfolio. A loss won't kill me, but a win would be exciting.

Saddle up! I'm holding F at a cost basis of $3.59/share. Either my gains on F will cancel out any BBRY losses, or I'll add to my cash pile. Not all of my investments are risky, but keeps life interesting to have at least one underdog in my portfolio at any point in time.

I bought shares recently as well, basically as a speculative gamble. It seems that many people forget that there were several interested parties when BlackBerry was up for sale, before Fairfax closed the door. Offers to break up the company were rejected. This makes me think that BlackBerry has something up their sleeve that we don't know about yet. Perhaps it's just secure cloud based device management, but it may be more than that.

I still maintain that the BB10 operating system itself is not a failure. The OS functionality is great (and getting better) and the phones work well. BlackBerry is just dealing with consumers who *think* they know BlackBerry because they used an OS7 or older device. Owners of the Z30 can't stop gushing about how awesome the phone is, but they are not actively marketed. I hope things start turning around for BlackBerry because I want to continue having an option for something other than iPhone and Android, and I'm not that interested in WP.

  • BlackBerry Is Far From Dead. Right Sized, It Will Have A Profitable Future  [View article]
I think the iPhone, with a smaller screen than the Z10 does just fine with the "wrinklies". If a 5" screen is too small, then that person is not in the smartphone market at all...

  • Potential BlackBerry suitors interesting in buying parts of company  [View news story]
I agree. Everybody seems to forget the public announcement by one of BlackBerry's directors saying that BlackBerry could survive as a niche player. Traders are using the stock price as an indicator of the company's health, which is just backwards. This is driving negative press, which makes people hesitate to buy the devices. I think BlackBerry could grow organically with better marketing. They may need a bigger partner to fund the marketing efforts without drawing down too much cash, though. It would also help if the gloomy comments from short traders and those supporting the short positions are silenced. This is probably why BlackBerry is considering going private, but I don't think that is enough to change perceptions.

  • Fairfax Financial Might Be The Best Play On BlackBerry  [View article]
I don't understand the comments about BlackBerry failing to innovate. Perhaps that point of view comes from someone who has not used the Z10? I have a new iPad that is essentially a 4 year old iPod Touch in a different size and color. I can barely stand to use it because it is so clunky compared to the BB10 operating system. What BlackBerry needs is deep pockets to properly market and roll out the new OS, as well as provide confidence to BES customers that BBRY will be around for the long haul. Breaking up the company and selling it for parts would cause a loss of the future value for the excellent products coming out of BlackBerry now.

I would like to see an ad showing BB, Android and iPhone users completing a set of complex tasks side by side. BB10 would win hands down.

  • BlackBerry director: company can survive as "niche" player  [View news story]
I interpret this as a response to all the speculation that BBRY is on the brink of bankruptcy. It's a message to the Enterprise clients that BBRY won't disappear tomorrow if they don't find a buyer or hit 20% market share.
