An Ameritrade-E*Trade Merger? Not as Crazy as It Sounds
Etrade (ETFC) if they are acquired by Ameritrade (AMTD) what would it mean for the shorts? I would like to find out if they are in talks. Why else are the two of these heavyweights so silent through this turmoil. They are the beneficiaries during this time. Etrade share price is so low. They have more cash on hand then the all the shares combined.

E*TRADE Financial: It Was Good to Be Long
Etrade just announced the sale of its canada operations is complete. They should have announced it earlier as their share price was falling. Does layton want this stock to continue to fall?

What baffels me is Laytons silence when the share price falls 10%. Etrade (ETFC) CEO Layton could help his company if he wasn't so silent he she be telling all the postive things they are working on and the expected close of some of their sales like the etrade of canada. Where is Etrade leadership?

I agree the big guys control this industry. I only hope its a sign he knows somethings coming or he or she makes a bid on Etrade. Saying that I've seen the last minute go the other way, WE are like bottom fish hoping our money and our investments grow. Cramer was probably right about investing in etrade at the time. But with the negative assets coming off the books the stock will match ameritrade AMTD. I also believe that they would be acquired before they get to that level I wouldn't be surprised if the day those assets come off the books that there is a bid on etrade.

I looked at the one day chart graph and the time it was purchased. And if you were watching the stock price the last five minutes you could see how rapidly it spiked. It must have been a market order and not a limit. The price went up 10 cents in the closing minute. You can find it on market watch. Market watch shows a 2 1/2 million shares but etrade chart (at etrade) shows almost 4 million shares.

I am also long on Etrade (ETFC) its a company I continue to believe in and like you said they have done a fantastic job selling some non core assets to give them almost and additional billion dollar cash cushion and the cash will come in handy as their bad assets that they have on their books is short term. When they unload this I expect the stock to hit the $10 plus. The mortgage assets along with the shorts have continued to hold their stock down. At the end on friday at 3:59 someone bought 4 million shares of etrade stock. I do believe that when etrade gets rid of their mortgage assets off their books someone will attempt to acquire them or do a merger. Either way I'm long Etrade. I would like to hear from CEO Layton, I like him to give us an update on the sale of etrade of canada. Its supposed to be completed in the 3rd quarter and I would also like him to discuss the addition this weekend of etrade in the middle east they were just issued a license. I like hime to issue a press release weekly talking about the business. He needs to be on the offensive.

      Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News
Etrade (ETFC) reported out during Q2 results in July that they have stakes in Fannie and Freddie and that they sold some and will be liquidating the rest due to the potential government takeover. I emailed Etrade yesterday at their investment line with this question. Does Etrade own any fannie or freddie? Etrade reponded that they liquidated the rest of their prefered July 31st and he also referanced Q2 results and future guidenance. So basically they Own 0 and the time of the government takeover.

S&P Upgrades E*Trade Despite Struggling Financial Sector Peers
I am a Etrade share holder and I am very dissappointed with their lack of keeping their shareholders informed. If things including loan loss is significantly down and they are likely to show a profit in the second quarter come out and say it to the analysts and shareholders. The number one question is do they think they can beat analysts expectations for the second quarter if the answer is yes than they need to provide a forward forcast in order to boost the share price. Unless layton Etrade CEO wants to help the shorts prior to the june 16th options trading. Where is the may results they are a week over due???

      E*Trade: Hindsight with Binoculars
Etrade share value in my opinion is under priced. Analysts feel that Layton Etrade CEO isn't saying enough to justify a higher price. I want to see Etrade to stepup and tell me why Etrade shares should be priced at $10.

      E*Trade: Hindsight with Binoculars
At one time I was hoping Etrade (ETFC) would be bought out giving me a quick couple dollars. Now that I own over 30,000 shares I want to see them go it alone. I'm in for the long hall and I agree Etrade is slowly selling off assets of their non core business so that their profits and balance sheet will quadruple by the 3rd quarter and it will become more expensive if a company was to buy them or me out. Analysts won't upgrade Etrade because they would have to admit they were wrong and that they caused this problem. Analysts are losing their value with investors and if they are careful about being fair to companies like Etrade they will be out of a job. Etrade is getting leaner by getting rid of senior mananagment that caused this problem and ETRADE CEO and Chairman Layton is putting in people they he knows will grow the business profits. So I expect the stock to increase over the next week. I was surprised that Analysts didn't upgrade Etrade after first quarter results, they believed Etrade would report a billion dollar in mortgage writedowns in the first quarter, Etrade surprised them and reported out a 124 million dollar write down and with this write down they accelerated some write downs and defaults. Lets see others wrote off billions while Etrade wrote off millions, I looked at this as a positive. I do believe Etrade CEO Layton needs to be talking about the positives Etrade accomplished each and every week.

Look for the worst to be over at Etrade. The only thing thats holding back their shares is the analysts. Etrade went from writing off 1.7 billion in the 4th quarter to losing 90 million in the first quarter. What I find odd was in the 1st quarter Etrade socked away an additional 234 million in cash into their future or potential loan loss fund, increasing this fund to over 700 million so technically it wasn't a loss in the first quarter. The analysts work for companies that has wrote off billions in the 4th quarter and billions in the first quarter, I think they should be using etrade model.

J.P. Morgan on Verge of Buying Bear for $20/Share
I would like to see Etrade be bought out it seems to be lacking leadership. The board is a hollw shell that has continuously ignored their shareholders like myself. I email them once a week over the last six weeks and I get zero responses. I'm believeing either Etrade has extremly bad news or they are negociating a buyout. They should report feb results but Layton is refusing to give investors any insite.

why is Etrade leadership silent is it because they are inept or because they are considering a buyout offer. I think first Etrade is negotiating a sale of its mortgage assets.
