I am not very impressed by this article. ETFC is not trying to get people to open savings accounts because they need the money. They are trying to get people to open savings accounts because they know that a certain proportion of those accounts will also become trading accounts, which will give them trading commissions, offsetting any losses they might take on the savings account interest.
