  • Is It as Simple as New-GM vs. Old-GM? [View article]
I am for one quite bullish on GM long term prospects. Why? great brand loyalty with a good chunk of consumers. Not like they used to have, but enough to be quite sucessfull. Now that they will shed that retiree overhang, they might be just make money. They can not go bankrupt again, can they? I think maybe in the next few years there will be major breakthroughs in new technology with gasoline a thing of the past, everyone will in the new auto market. GM, with the backing of the US goverment will be positioned to do nicely. Lastly, no one gives them a chance. A sure sign their new stock ,when traded will skyrocket. I am happy to say I am in, when my GM notes are converted to equity. I am holding on to them, I expect 100 cents on the dollar someday. (It may take a few years)

  • Financial Times Debunks Citi's Memo [View article]
Citi made a lot of money in the past. maybe some of that through the credit bubble and unsustainable. But they have a huge worldwide franchise I would not write them off as yet. I bought the stock several years ago at 27 on the way up to 50 I thought I was so smart. Sold them around 40.Now to see them at 1 is quite remarkable, are those assets that bad? Nobody gives them a chance, the stock is probaly a screaming buy here. Two years from now its probaly back in double digits. If they can ditch the goverment.

Thank You jbmaria no need to save us from ourselves. We can do our own due dilligence and research. I have read some of your nonsense posts and they are pathetic. Look, if you think ETFC is the worst investment a person can make great, you made your point. Find somewhere else to spread your negativity. If you have short postion in ETFC great, try to stick to real issues surrounding the Company to explain your postion not some 1999 Enron B.S. I have news, Enron is done, over. But to have someone claim as you over and over,I have no position, I sold at the top, I am smarter than everyone else, All you people are foolish for believing in this Company, thats makes me "queasy" (not in 1999 right now in 2008)

I have been holding this stock and some various call options since November last year and it has been a test of patience, but turnarounds always take time this one is no different. This stock wont budge in my opinion untill they prove (even with their morgage and consumer loan exposure) they CAN make a profit. Which I believe that day is coming soon. We could not have better leadership than is currently in place, these banking veterans have the experience and ability to right this ship. But it will not happen overnight it would be foolish to think it could. So ETFC investors need to sit tight and wait, and when the stock getting dragged down by unfounded negative sentiment as it is currently is, buy more. I believe someday ETFC investors will be rewarded nicely.

  • Who Will Trigger E*Trade's Magic Moment - and a 111.4M Short Squeeze? [View article]
I would have to say the rossetti2000 comment was the best I have read regarding the huge short interest in this stock. I have found it difficult recently to imagine why institution or investor would be holding a short position in ETFC. It seems like the huge risks would outweigh the reward. Like rossetti said there are certainly a number of possible catalysts that could surge this stock. On the other side, the drag on the Company is the balance sheet issues related to their morgage debt. That seems to more than priced in at 4 bucks a share. You would have to think Layton was lying about the performance of the loan portfolio which I suppose has happened before with other companies in the past. The brokerage is clearly not going to do them in and I believe is going to earn them out of their current sitituation. That is why I am Long the stock and calls. But do your own research and dont let me pump pump pump it up!

  • The Online Brokerage Wars: E*Trade Offers Compelling Risk/Reward [View article]
I have had an account with Etrade for over ten years. I can say I have never had a problem with them. I also had a Home Equity Loan with them,I paid mine back in full, (cant blame me). When I opened my loan I found their lending practices quite conserative, they did a lowball appraisal of my property ,full income documentary etc. This is why I was surprised to hear them in loan trouble, but I supposed they purchased a lot of loans others originated. I wouldnt be surprised if the loans they hold perform a lot better then the doom and gloomers say they will. But I am an optimist, I also think this housing downturn is going to be a memory real soon.Could you imagine what this stock would do if that happened? With the Brokerage gaining customers the loans making money instead of sucking the Company dry it would be one hot stock. Thats why I am long ETFC,and I am not saying it will happen overnight It is sure to a long road back.

  • E*Trade: What the Analysts and News Haven't Told You [View article]
Great Article Ms Reed certainly some clarity on some complex and confusing issues regarding ETFC. I have a long position in the stock and options so I take any help I can get in evaluating the investment I have made and it future prospects. I have read both the authors on Yahoo ETFC message board many times and they are obviously quite dilligent and insightful, thank you. As for ensuing debate with JB Maria (if you could call that a debate) She/He should just go away they offer nothing to anyone, I would like to hear a true bear on ETFC as I am sure they could bring up valid negative points to debate instead of the bitter name calling JB Maria engages in. With 100 million shares shorted were are the true bears in this stock (maybe getting ready to run fast!)

  • E*Trade Primed for a Breakout [View article]
I kick out these people who dont know the difference between authorized shares and outstanding shares. From what I understand a Company can authorize shares all they want, they dont dilute current shareholders until they issue them and they become outstanding. Now had these people listened to the 1st Q CC, Management said whatever they do with the additional shares would be shareholder friendly meaning the shares could be used for debt to equity swaps or other uses that are good to future earnings and the future of the Company. Now if you dont believe them which is certainly your right, I would sell the Stock if you were long, or better yet go short. I for one believe them, they have a few shares of ETFC kicking around that I bet they would like to see go up in value not down. See ya at 15!

  • E*Trade: Primed To Turn Around? [View article]
After just listening to conference call and reviewing the earnings release I am optimistic at would I heard and saw. I have a long position in the stock. The HELOC Portfolio peformance was certainly good news. It does not surprise me any though. I cant believe the negitivity surrounding any type of morgage debt these days. The simple fact is the vast majority of people in this country have jobs, pay their payments, like their homes and kind of want to keep them. They also value their credit scores. This seems to be especially true pertaining to borrowers with FICO's above 700 which is what Etrade is holding. The doom and gloomers point to falling home values, I for one, dont care, If my home has negitive equity, so what, it is a temporary issue. I am paying my morgage. I am in for the long run. The whole subprime issue is mind boggling to me. What happened is that a lot of uncreditworthy borrowers defaulted, that is what they were supposed to do, right? Why is anyone surprised? Everything I see says Etrade is not holding a lot of this, whatever they had is long gone in the Citadel transaction. To hear the media bash Etrade constantly is bewildering. But us with long postions in the stock we should thank them for allowing us to get in at ridiculous levels. I for one am quite pleased that day in January when I bought ETFC @ 2.44. In the not to distant future I have a feeling I will be even more pleased.

  • E*Trade Financial: Great Company, Great Bargain  [View article]
I have heard mixed opinions on Etrade lately. The anaylsts certainly are negative, of course late to the party as usual, they are calling the stock a sell when it was $2.50. I dont remember hearing much of anything when It would have done anybody any good like when the stock was in the twentys. Etrade clearly lost a lot of money in the morgage mess. Is the worst behind them? Time will tell. What I do know for sure,Etrade has a first rate trading platform and user friendly web site. The insiders are putting their money where their mouths are and buying their stock. Thats good enough for me I am long the stock and will continue to be a customer.
