I do not think that the charts are applicable in our situation today unless you make some big adjustments for the cost of owning a home today versus in the past. As a home owner since the early 70s, I can assure you that the cost of ownership, taxes, insurance, utilities, and maintenance have increased greatly %wise over the years. The cost of the real estate tax in our area, the midwest has gone from about 1.2 % of home value in the early 90's to about 2.7 % today. Thats a huge increase of just one item which has to figured in.

I must agree with some parts of the above comments. We must send the illegals back to where they came from. 7,000,000 plus of them should open up at least 3,000,000 jobs for US citizens, and don't give me that c##p about "jobs Americans won't do", it doesn't fly. It would also give some relief to our social systems and infrastructure. The old way of immigration, putting limits on it, and doing away with, if U are my 17th cuz U can come to the USA c##p, and just not letting every Tom Dick and Harry in here will help a great deal with the job market.
I agree jswede. You must also factor in the afordibility issue.A lot of people have been forced out of the housing market by the huge jump in their cost of living. The cost of food, energy, healthcare, and taxes, which affect each and everyone of us, coupled with the stagnation of the income of the lower and middle class, have put the American Dream out of reach for millions.
I think we have tried the " Free Trade" route and have run up a great deficit. There can be imports and exports but they must be on a level playing field. US business cannot compete with someone overseas paying $2 a day wages and no import duties to even it up. We also cannot reward our business community for taking their jobs overseas. I do believe that this is why we do not make much anymore and our manufacturing base has gone away. What does everyone think-thumb me up or down.

I believe that as long as the "stimulas packages" , wither they are tax cuts or spending, are geared to proping up the consumer so they can spend-spend-spend-with $ they do not really have, we are doomed to a very long and painful time. The cure will be the return to making "stuff" right here in the good old USA and not in some other country. The "stimulas packages" must be designed to this end or they are not going to work in the long haul.

How is it that the working man is the bad guy in this story. The mismanagement, obnoxious big boy salaries, and not doing their due dilligence had nothing to do with it? Tell the whole story with all the TRUE facts or quit putting out your drivel!!

I basicly agree, everyone needs to grow up and take responsibility for their own actions. No one held a gun to anyones head to sign a mortgage, they might have convinced them to do so, but in the end the individual must do their own due diligence and make their own decision.
