Another article that sidesteps all of the political risks in South America. Presently, the Chilean government is thwarting ABX, but a bigger danger is Argentina. The president of Argentina is a fawning follower of Hugo Chavez (I know he's dead) and his policies (which are still very much alive), and is remaking Argentina into another Venezuela. Where will ABX and SLW be if/when Argentina nationalizes Pascua-Lima and Veladero?
How about the political risk where MUX has its properties, particularly in "creeping socialism" Argentina where nationalization a la Venezuela is a real threat?
3D Systems (DDD +2.4%) spikes in afternoon trading after CNBC reports the company canceled an appearance at a BB&T conference next week. However, 3D says the cancellation is simply due to a scheduling conflict. [View news story]
Maybe it rose due to the strong reco on FOX business, by Charles on Varney.
Even as his hand has gone ice-cold picking stocks, John Paulson's stake in gold (GLD) has served as a positive counterweight for his funds. That's no more as gold's slide (along with the miners - GDX) spurred an 18% decline in his Gold Fund in February, and is now down 26% YTD, reports Bloomberg. "We believe in the long-term outlook for these positions as QE programs continue around the world," he writes to clients. [View news story]
There was a deflationary scare in the late 70's and gold responded with a drop of 50%...right before it screamed to it's high of $850. Is that what we are in for? A drop of approximately 50% from it's high in the $1,900's then the long-awaited parabolic run where fortunes are made?
The Sandstorm Gold Plunge: Warning Or Opportunity? [View article]
No sooner does Sandstorm take on additional political-stability risk with it's deal with Entree but, in a matter of days, news surfaces that Entree may be held up by the Mongolian government. More downward pressure on SAND's stock price.
Despite today's closing hiccup, the S&P 500 is up in January and February this year. This has occurred 26 times since 1945, notes Bob Pisani, and each time the S&P finished green for the year, with an average gain of 24%. [View news story]
Is 26 times only about one-third of the time? Why didn't Cheerleader Bob point that out?
The Sandstorm Gold Plunge: Warning Or Opportunity? [View article]
I looked at the Premier web site. Three of their five major assets are in Africa (2) and Argentina (1). So SAND's new equity interest in Premier adds more political risk for SAND. They have switched direction more than originally apparent.

Chris: You say "SLW's earnings per share are estimated to grow at a rate of 36% in the next five years." Is that 36% OVER five years, or 36% annually, each year, for the next five years?

Please don't disgrace the economics profession by calling Steve Liesman one. They have enough of an image problem. Liesman has a degree in English and one in journalism. He's just another CNBC cheerleader.
How To Position For President Obama's Second Term [View article]
How to position for Obama's second term? Let's see. Start with guns and plenty of ammo. Canned and dehydrated food plus bottled water. Convert fiat money to real money: gold and silver, including small denominations for day-to-day transactions. Wherever possible, stock up on any meds you regularly need. Oh! And move south to where you'll have a better chance of surviving long spells of no electricity and no heat. Isn't it depressing to see that 57% can't see what this guy has done to our country, what he will do when not eligible for reelection (unless he changes that law, as well!), and the long-term consequences of his actions?
And who couldn't see this coming? The ones with their head in the sand. Iran gets sanctions lifted, drags this out while they complete their bomb-making, and by then we are in a real mess.

UN atomic inspectors and Iran reach agreement that will allow the IAEA to inspect suspected nuclear weapons sites, possibly opening the door to a deal to ease sanctions which could push crude oil prices down another $5/bbl or more. Iran's incentive: Its crude shipments are stalled, with ~40M bbls floating around in the Persian Gulf with nowhere to go. [View news story]
