    Chowder,

Thanks for your explanation of Chowder index and Chowder rule. It is amazing to see the three years outcome. I always want to see mine too. Of course, I am just a learning and the first grader. haha.

Thanks to you and all the gurus here leading us passing the great many years. Hope we can survive for next several years..... I am not sure why I am so calm to face future raising rate or the bear market moving in. I think my portfolios are holding so many boring but having long history quality stocks, I am not scared. May be I am "too young(to the investment)" or I am just a silly senior.

Talking about bear market, I was facing a real Bear Mama with three cubs last week, and the bears showed in my yard almost daily. It was only 10-15 feet far between two cubs and me, I was calm, turned around, walked only 4 steps and turned to the left, jumped to my car, and shut the garage door. Later, I was shaking when I recalled it. It would be shorter distance for Mama Bear went to my garage direction... What was I thinking... just a luck. I almost be their good dinner. Aiya ya. That was why I am not afraid of bear market because I met with real bears. haha.

Oh, by the way, I did not see J. D. Welch's article or posting. Is he ok? He is a real nice guy and helped me a lot. Thanks, J.D. and wish you well.

    Gangbuster,

You did the right thing and you are brave. We all learned to do the same thing. That was why we are still here in SA learning everyday.

Now I learn if something border me, something I really do not understand well, then deal with it and get rid of it as soon as possible. Move on to the bright sunny tomorrow is always a happy mood.

Thanks for sharing your story. ---Small

    DH,

You are taking a great "risk" to offer the matching. Haha. What a great parent you are!!!!

If each parent can do a little thing to encourage the youngsters at home to step in to the market, the outcome will be amazing. Instead of complaining the government not providing job..... or yelling to the kids, I think you set a good model for everyone to learn from your positive support.

Well done DH, you are a smart one for sure. ---Small

  • My First Quarter 2015 Portfolio Review [View article]
    Bob,

I was waiting for this article. Thank you very much.

I enjoy reading your article, especially love to see you put the rating at front(on the list). It helped me to compare my own notes and I found several mistakes those I made and corrected them easily. Thanks for sharing.

One question came out, hope you (or others) can help.
How often that M* , Value Line .... evaluate their rating? Is that monthly or...???
Shall we also do DD check again following their routine review?

The reason I asked this, just thinking of this earning season. Many companies miss their earning. I just wonder it would affect their rating or not. Of course rating is a small part of doing DD research. Just curious and want to learn.

    Thank you. ---Small

    NV,

Where did you learn that Fidelity will/would drip 1% discount on OHI and VTR? It is interesting to me. Can you share this story? Thanks.

    Rose,

I agree with your pick(stocks). I also do the same for two grand kids. I have additional ED, MCD, and DIS. The older one got MMM, the youngest one has AMBA(more risky) since she is still young, why not, right?

I love to see their parents gave them pennies when they finished shopping. Then they saved those pennies in piggy jars. After a period of time, they will count the pennies and asked parents to exchange them to quarters. They also routinely went to the bank, deposit the quarters they got.... Nice idea from their parents. At least they can count. haha.

Hope all doing well for you and little one. ----Small

    DH,

Your article touched everyone's painful experience. You are honest and open your thinking for us to discuss the important thing---Should I sell? Now or later? Then what?

I am sure there are more comments to come. I love to see people here being so honest and shared the ways how to correct own mistakes. This is a great article and you are pushing everyone to run the brain and think deeper. Thank you for doing so.

If we all take time to read and re-read the commentary area... I am sure, we will learn so much. I agree that depend on one's goal, we have many ways to handle "buy and sell". Your words will be on my note:"...I should dump the stocks that are not fulfilling our current investment objectives and dump them now."

    Thank you and all. ---Small

    Nicholas,

In adding appreciation to you on top of others, I just want to express how much I enjoy reading your article(plus your other posting and articles). You has taught me a lot. Thank you very much!

I would also thanks BH2012 who is not only extremely patient, but also has the best discipline and sharp eyes. I started with HOW can he not even sold one stock? I followed his postings, took notes, and tried hard to figure it out. Beside him, I never saw anyone has that ability and self-control(emotional... It is amazing to put all emotion aside while doing investing. On the other hand, I can see how much time and efforts that he put on the research and restricted himself with his "rules". Stick on those rules as Chowders did is another area that we all have to learn. I am extremely happy to read this article and reading B7H2012 replied.... hope one day I can meet this tough guy(I know he is here in CT, where is the only place I live since I landed to US 32+ years ago.)

I just wondering if Nicholas can have time to write another article on How H&B2012 did his research. It will be a great teaching article for us to step by step learning research method, at the same time growing our confidence in owning the best stocks in the market. Just wish more people will share their great idea, method for new comers like me.

Thank you and all for being such a big heart person and help us in all time. I hope SA would consider to put more article in healthcare, biotech section.... I am glad to see JAZZ is on B&H watching list. Thanks for sharing. ---Small

  • DGI 2015 Candidate List - Adding Health Care And Materials Stocks [View article]
    Earl,

Thank you for taking time to do this excellent screening. You save my time and also for other people who are looking for decent info. Thank you.

Beside those MLPs, I enjoy seeing most of your list and love your pick on Material. I have been watching DOW for a long time, not having any action yet. IP was the company that doing well since they closed the headquarter here in CT. My daughter used to work for IP when she just graduated from college. I love that company and still have connection with their employees. Miss Memphis ribs too. haha.

Thank you for sharing and showing me how you did those screening. All the best to you! ---Small
