Junk Bond ETFs: Yields Too Good to Be True? [View article]
Although I own JNK too, and know your question about 10%+ was rhetorical, I would suggest AINV, AOD, CLMT, LINE, MFA, NLY, SUI, and WIN for risk-spread, all yielding 10% or more even if purchased today! For disclosure, I own them all.

Thanks for the info - some great ideas to think about further, and obviously check out for myself. You are correct - screening is often a direction but never the end of the path.

OK, I'll bite... what is the purpose of the Title of the article if you don't give your opinion and reasons for what you believe is the answer to your question?

Stan - I use DividendInvestor.com for quick looks at dividend data. Shows payout of 49% for BP. I personally use anything under 70% or lower as acceptable.

Thanks for the summary since Dividends, with Growth, is a large part of my investing also. However, with the majority of these having been purchased in the 2nd half of 2007, approximately 1-1/2 yrs ago at the top of the market, it would be interesting to revisit this summary in another 1-1/2 years to see the performance of these funds from this point.
The answer to your question is "YES" because otherwise the government goons would have to admit all the dollars they bailed and shipped off to the bank's black hole were of no value.

CAT has tightened down all expenses across their divisions - sorry to say includes layoff of many contract & specialty workers across the world and preparing for continued slowness in 2009. They are receiving orders but customers don't have the financing to put dates to them yet. Their dividend looks secure however, especially considering the comments made by their management that "they learned their lesson in the '80's about cutting/eliminating dividends". I am in at $32.88 and will go more if dips back to the range. And, charts are at least short-term bullish.
Amen, Bingo 2. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, the odds are that it is an ugly duckling versus the beautiful swan that the Fed's keep trying to convince us to believe.
It's Hard to Be a Bear: Resist the Urge to Buy These Scarred Stocks [View article]
My day job is wholesaling building materials (39-yrs) and I can tell you the housing slump hasn't even started to hit bottom yet. On top of that, with commodity & oil trends up over the past two years, we are getting hit almost daily with building material increases, usually in the 8-12% range - shingles are on allocation right now across the country. So, with considerable rising costs during an economy turndown, I can only see an extension of the time frame to recovery. I see late 2009 and a DJIA of at least 10,250 (according to my charts).
