  • Chesapeake Energy (CHK) will allow ex-CEO Aubrey McClendon to acquire oil and gas holdings adjacent to CHK's wells in which he is a part-owner, altering the terms of an earlier agreement. CHK will pay McClendon nearly $50M in severance and allow him the use of a company aircraft. The relaxed terms ought to come in handy as he opens a new energy business a half-mile from his old office. [View news story]
The way I see it he is one of the best oil men in the country. I don't see how it helps anyone to punish him. I just hope someday he goes public so I can buy his stock. I still don't no what he did wrong except becoming exposed to corporate raiders. If you don't like him stay away from wnat he dose.

  • USEC: Management Adds An Extra Billion To ACP Cost (And I Sell My Stock) [View article]
Today, 30 nations have nuclear power reactors; 14% of the world's power comes from nuclear; and 56 nations have research reactors.Nuclear power hasn't even begun to peak...Right now, under-construction reactors have the capability to add 17% to existing capacity, and planned reactors could add an additional 49%.This is enhanced by the climate change crisis that plagues the world. The United Nations recently declared that in order to avoid disastrous results, the climate cannot rise more than two degrees Celsius in this century.I see no reason to let the facts get in the way of your decision.

  • USEC: Management Adds An Extra Billion To ACP Cost (And I Sell My Stock) [View article]
All I know is last year world consumption of swu was 179,000,000 lbs and world production was 139,000,000 lbs. The world projected consumption by 2020 is 220,000,000 lbs. If usec becomes a low cost producer as per there new machines they will get more then there share of that increase. As with any stock you pay your money and take your chances. Personally I feel its the best thing that can happen so I am sticking with nuclear.

  • Chesapeake Energy (CHK) fails to win a court order in its request for an emergency ruling allowing it to start redeeming $1.3B in notes early without automatically incurring the risk of paying ~$400M in interest sought by BNY Mellon (BK). CHK, which had hoped for a favorable ruling to help it close a potential $4B cash shortfall this year, -0.6% AH. [View news story]
A lot of people think that we are better off without Aubrey, but I am not one of them. As long as he was head of the company I always felt he would do the very best for the company. It has been his life's work. Anyone that takes a small company and turns it in a Billion Dollar company has to be someone special. Just think of all the right decisions he had to make to build this company.

  • In an effort to keep pace with the growing demand for natural gas power generation equipment, General Electric (GE -0.2%) says it plans to add 115 new jobs and invest nearly $11M over the next five years to improve its production facilities in Slater, Missouri, where it's manufactured filtration technologies for power generation systems since 1975. [View news story]
I don't know much about manufactured filtration for power generation systems. I would think it not a major cost item so it wouldn't take a large investment. The story is the increase in use of natural gas. Any time you decrease the use of coal that's a good thing. Every little bet helps to decrease global warming. By 2030 most of it will be nuclear anyway.

  • Corning (GLW) introduces Willow Glass, a thin, bendable glass product that the company boasts could eventually enable displays that are "wrapped around a device or structure." If Willow Glass is widely adopted, it could provide a pricing and margin boost for Corning's display glass business, which is expected to see minimal growth going forward. Samsung, LG, and others are working on flexible LCD and OLED displays that could conceivably leverage Willow Glass.  [View news story]

Where were you when Bush had his head up his butt and let 9-11 happen? Sure it's tragic that 4 people lost there life's. How about comparing that with 3,000 from the Republican the last time they were in charge. When it comes to an outright screwing how about the banking bomb. It didn't wipe out the middle class but it come close. You put these bums in power and they will probably do next time.

  • Investigators are trying to understand the cause of damage to a spinning shaft in a GE (GE) engine that was attached to a Boeing (BA) 787 aircraft and expelled hot metal shards during a test run last month. "If it was a manufacturing error, it can be remedied, but if it's a design problem, that's a little more integral to the engine," says consultant William Storey. [View news story]
My first thought is what was the shaft made of? If it was Stainless Steel then they have a big problem.
