Berkshire Hathaway Stock Portfolio: At Risk of Resembling an Index Fund? [View article]
BRKB opened the year at $3205, it is now $3403 that is a gain of 6.17% so Berkshire is doing a damn poor job of keeping up with the Dow. As an owner for over 5 years the recent performance when compared with any of the main indexes, is very disappointing. I hold this dog because of the potential not the current performance. I keep thinking someday this stock has to have a major breakout but only God knows when.
Following Buffet is like watching TV. If you don't like what's on, turn the channel. If you are a Buffet fan and you can afford the stock, you probably do, so you have a dog in the fight. If you don't own BRK then why would you even care about WB? I never owned any Enron therefore I did not give a tinkers damn for Ken Lay. I own BRK and if Buffet displeases me I will sell, that is the bottom line.

GM sells Hummer to Chinese...lol None of the GM companies out of the United States are included in the bankruptcy. If that is true what is the name of the company holding all the overseas stuff? Is it the 75c GM. Is GM using the money we are giving them to shore up the overseas stuff not included in the bankruptcy? Nixon and Watergate and Bill Clinton and his problems were nothing compared to this gang currently in control of our government. Chrylser and parts of GM being forced to be sold to Fiat...what a joke...time to see who is benefiting within Fiat. The American people are so politically blinded they can't even feel the pickpocket robbing them blind.
American Consumers Aren't Spending, Or Borrowing [View article]
The American consumer is seeing their friends and neighbors lose their jobs and they are scared to death. The American thing to do now is to listen to Dave Ramsey, pay down debt and make sure you have enough in savings to weather a 3 month loss of job. Eventually the old autos will wear out, people will have their credit cards paid down to a comfortable level and the fear of spending will subside and that is when the recovery will begin. In the mean time the Obama administration will seize upon the opportunity to expand government control in every aspect of our lives, all in the name of getting us out of the recession.

It is not hard to figure out why Buffet is buying up BNI or any rail road for that matter. What is the cheapest way to move goods long distance...rail. We have already seen how the rail business picked up during the last jump in fuel prices. Well, in the future that will be the norm. In the future, in order to save energy we will be using more and more rail. Buffet will never see the day when rail makes a gigantic comeback but our kids, kids will. In the future rail will make a comeback to every small town, just as it once was. Heck, every Wal Mart will have rail right up to the back door. Warren's heirs will be saying, damn, he really was ahead of his time.

You could buy what Buffet buys but the secret to Buffets returns is the sell and you would always be to late on that side. The average investor knows nothing about options so that is not an option. So, the best option is to just buy brk-b shares, and forget about looking at your monthly statement. Buffets 2007 annual report had a section about the 100 year return of the market from 1900 thru 1999 and it was only 5% so if Buffet makes you 5.5% he is beating the market by 10% a year and that is damn good. There are only a handful of investors that have a 50 year track record that can even come close to Buffets. I'll trust him with my little nest egg and I won't lose any sleep over it.
There are actually people out there that use their credit cards for purchases that require 3 to 6 month payouts. Items like medical deductible expense and other items which are not discretionary. It is easier to use a 8% card than to go to the bank and get a short term loan. We all have cash flow problems from time to time and ipods and useless electronics are not involved. It strikes me funny that everytime credit cards purchases are discussed the automatic assumption is overuse and high interest rates. This is probably the rule but there is always an exception.

Love your comments Prudentman. You are spot on. The Dems owe the election to the Unions and they want to pay them back with taxpayer money. And point you made about the workers going to other manufacturers like Toyota and Honda is right. Trained autoworkers are hard to find so the autoworkers that remain will hire them in a minute. With gas below $2 a gallon you can bet alternate sources of energy will not come on line anytime soon. So if the dems want to develop alternate sources of energy they will have to get the price of gas above $3.50 a gallon and they will have to keep it there. I am predicting a federal tax to get the job done. They will call it an alternative energy tax and pass it with the guise that the tax money will be used to develop alternate sources of energy. Hold on to your wallet the greenies are taking over.
