The selloff in Apple (AAPL) has reached the point of "insanely insane," says Topeka's Brain White, arguably the Street's biggest bull on the stock. Uber-bull or not, maybe he's got a point. Those selling Apple at a sub-10 PE while holding onto or buying Company X - with no earnings growth, selling at a 20 PE, but yielding 5% - may look back one day and wonder what they were thinking. Stocks with large capital gains are getting sold off, to a large extent, because those who have held them fear a higher capital gains tax next year. Simple-minded? Yes. True? Yes.
Apple's Mini To Make A Big Appearance [View article]
Just what I was thinking. Have iMac but nothing mobile. Do not want to come back after being away for a week or two and confront 300 emails. Also want the ability to manage my investments while away. There should be a market for this, especially around Christmas.... Apple must avoid bugs on this new product. We'll see..... Best case scenario: it will be a blockbuster. Odds on this? Don't know.
6 Reasons iPhone Will Surprise Analysts [View article]
I have been wondering myself about the supply chain information that analysts have been trotting out for several quarters. From whom are they getting this information, and how much is being paid for it?
If this is not inside information, what the hell is it?

If a car maker has a car selling for $35K and comes out with another that sells for $25K, they both can get from point A to point B, but where is the cannibalizing? And why can't the guy with the more expensive car buy a second for his kid who is going off to college? Each car competes against other cars in their respective classes. BMW makes cars that sell for more than $50K, and you can buy a Mini for less than $25K. Is this strategy hurting BMW?
Jeff Gundlach stirs things up at the New York Yacht Club, the bond man telling a luncheon if he were master of the universe (isn't he?), he would be short Apple and long natural gas with 100X leverage (prev. on NG). On the Fed: There's no inflation only if you look at house prices and wages, and yesterday "added another dose of confusion" to the mix. [View news story]
Jeff Gundlach! As seen on TV!! CNBC!!! New York Yacht Club guest speaker and guru!!!!
Look out, Jim Cramer!!!!!
This is heavy stuff.
Full disclosure: I was long NG a year ago and got the hell out before I lost my shirt.
Apple Shares Dip As The U.S. Government And 15 States File Suit [View article]
Good to know the DOJ is out there protecting Amazon. Amazon, with its heft and ability to deliver stuff without either Amazon or the purchasers paying tax on what is bought, has driven tens of thousands of book sellers and music stores out of business, and with that, the dismissals of the employees of these stores. Publishers will also be destroyed as writers deal directly with Amazon and bypass traditional publishers. Amazon has a business model that allows it to become as vertically integrated as Big Oil.
Ariad Pharmaceuticals Is Worth Your Long-Term Investment [View article]
The FDA is unlikely is approve Ridaforolimus this year but will not rule out this drug with additional research by Merck and Ariad. Whether Merck is willing to fund this research is another matter. The FDA does keep an open mind and will give this drug a fair shot at later approval. Yes, there are two other drugs in Ariad's pipeline. Even the approval of Ridaforolimus by the FDA in the near future should not move up the price of ARIA very much. I expect a relatively range-bound price of Ariad for several months, unless Merck or another pharma wants to buy out Ariad now. No one is going to bet on that.
The prospect of increasing dividends makes Apple attractive to widows and orphans. Capital appreciation is more important to others. And Apple, in itself, offers diversification to any portfolio. Nothing is totally safe except death, but Apple can be considered relatively safe.
Apple Cash Announcement Coming Monday - Why I'm Hoping It Disappoints [View article]
The quarterly dividend and buyback authorization is almost a non-event. This still leaves open the option, within a year, of a special dividend. I'm going back to sleep.
Chris Whitmore, take your perp walk. Apple's (AAPL -0.7%) failure to hold $600 is blamed on the Deutsche Bank analyst who proclaimed around midday that AAPL's parabolic rise had gone too far. Whitmore made clear his firm was just taking profits after rising 50% since October. Many Streeters share the skepticism, but they've been burned too often in the past to say so. [View news story]
A Bank analyst takes profits. The analyst immediately says he has taken profits. Is the analyst doing this to drive down the price further? If it does he looks good. And when it continues to go down he can buy at a lower price. Mind you, this analyst is NOT TRYING TO MANIPULATE THE PRICE OF APPLE.
Apple: Arguments Against A Dividend, Stock Split And Buyback [View article]
Shareholders who get nosebleed if Apple gets over one thousand should put on a parachute and gently descend. They can then count the money they have made. Later they can count the money they may have made (or lost) had they retained those shares. In any event, I am not sure this issue is worth discussing.
Special Dividend: The Solution To Apple's High Class Problem [View article]
I prefer a special dividend rather than a regular dividend. With new products being introduced at irregular intervals, quarterly and yearly earnings can be skewed. If dividends reflect earnings, they too will be skewed. Volitility in the amount of a dividend should be avoided.
