The (Abandoned) Uptick Rule and Blaming the Shorts
I am a Market Maker. I have ALWAYS been able to short on a downtick and my hedge fund clients, who use me to execute their orders, have always had this advantage since I execute their orders. The only thing that getting rid of the uptick rule did was to even the playing field for the little retail guy. Everyone complaining about this doesn't know mujh about trading and should blame themselves for their sub par returns. If you couldn't blame it on this you'd blame something else, like the Fed.
      Grow up.

The 'Uptick Rule' (A.K.A The Dangers of Dog Piles)
      Dude,
Market Makers have ALWAYS been able to short without an uptick. This just levels the field for the little guy and it's aboout time. This was just another unfair advantage for the big money.
