At Shadow Stats, John Williams, has calculated Consumer Inflation using the 1980 methodology, and shows inflation running much higher at about 12%. Since this was the methodology used in the 70's and early 80's why don't you compare apples to apples?

Absolutely moronic. It takes a full 18 months for the real (not psychological ) effects of a Fed reserve move to fully impact the economy. We are feeling the inflationary consequences of energy costs rising over a year ago. Any current signs of increased spending are really the increases of inflation biting into the day to day cost of living for Joe six pack. These fluctuations are meaningless in the face of a tsunami sized trend down and the Fed is only adding fuel to the fire.

Mr. Kumar's idea is a very cumbersome enterprise which would be unlikely to get support from any one of the participants in this strategy. 25-30% government bailout of what could be more than $890 billion is a rediculous burden to place on those taxpayers who saw this coming or didn't participate. Just let this unwind and let the FDIC do it's job.
