      Looking for Hope
      Stone Fox,

What gave you the idea that we have a free market? The market hasn't been free since 1913, when the bankers took over and started printing debt money. This is all part of the boom bust cycle written about by Von Mises and others. All this has done has brought forward the inevitable bust (not the last by any means).

Passing that republic breaking act would only postpone it. The USA will NEVER pay off its debt, that is impossible to do with the current rules. The only way to fix this is to move back to a system of sound money that is not manipulatable by bankers and special interests.

      The Presidential Speech, in Context
      Dear Flamorte,

I think Mr. Jensen speaks for more people than you may realise. He is speaking to those who, I believe see what is truly happening.

Our "betters" are putting on a display, it is all an act, and they are going to do, what they are going to do, and we as the "people" are going to take it on the chin, as always. The curtain is peeling back, the inner workings of the real government are coming to the forefront. They are showing us what we want to see, the truth is our government is a charade and not what it once was (or what we thought it is), and the average guy is seeing it for the first time. Then, they are flicking the channel over and getting back to watching the stories on the wall. How long till firemen stop putting out fires?

So the President speaks to the people and says, "we need to do what we need to do or it's (insert catastrophe)". Same thing they always say and same result too.

Once upon a time, some people got together and said, "ENOUGH". They put together for the first time ever a government that holds the people sovereign, not the government (this is important). This was the first time individuals held the power, the property and granted privileges to the government, and not the other way around. This is gone.

Now, our power to say no is gone, some are trying, they'll be ignored. They are saying, "this is our money why should we be punished for their stupidity?" The answer: You just live here, and we make the rules, now shut up and get back to work.

Flamorte, I think you are starting to see it, and you don't want to believe it. You're angry, and you should be, but point your anger in the right direction. It isn't fun to be conned.

I can't wait to read your article to "educate you the differences" on what it is to be a "Constitutional Centrist" (you made that up didn't you), and facism. Please, let's use your definition.

You're right, I wanted to go to Harvard and then maybe I could tell everybody I went there and they would think I'm smart just like you.

PS I have nothing against Harvard or any other University. You mentioned cognitive reading, strange? I originally posted the idea "tongue in cheek" to point out that your Alum Bush is an idiot despite attending a great university and that Harvard has nothing to do with being smart, as others have pointed that out as well as yourself. Carter has actually turned out to be a better president, that is amazing work.

You lack confidence in your opinions and beliefs if you didn't you wouldn't resort to belittling and name calling. I concur with your opinions in your earlier post about how to fix this mess, however the public execution comment was repulsive, even if it was "tongue in cheek".

      Petyaczar,

Lovely reply, and tongue in check to. Woops, maybe that went over my head ...I didn't go to Harvard after all.

Amazingly, Columbia is more left wing than Harvard. Wow, I'm learning so much from you. Didn't Obama go to Harvard?

Thank you also for the chronology of excuses for Bush, always good to see you Harvard guys sticking together! It's kind of touching in a way.

By the way, I'm sure Columbia will be honored to find out about your commendation ( and respect for decency) to not defecate any where near their university. I am in turn, impressed by the stunning use of the English language that you've exhibited.

Tell me, what are the differences between your beliefs and fascism?

Maybe I'm not as smart as your illustrious self, after all you have to be smart you went to Harvard right. You Ivy leaguers do like flattery after all. I asked a rhetorical question, and by your response touched a nerve. Yes GWB is a millionaire and so was his daddy and his daddy's daddy, so what.

If I were a Harvard MBA as you state that you are. I would be a little disappointed that my University is getting this kind of press from their graduates. I bet you wish you picked Columbia! At least then you could say you went to the same school as Buffet.

I wish you luck defending your fellow Alum Bush and the wonderful job he's been doing as Chief executive of the US.

      Harvard MBA = Smart?

What about George W. Bush, if he can earn a Harvard MBA what does that say about the other holders of Harvard MBA's?

I am now convinced that the United States is no longer a Republic! Who authorize the Fed reserve to give away $85 billion of OUR money to those bastards at AIG or any of the others for that matter. The constitution is for all intents and purposes no longer applicable to anything.

The barbarians are at the gates and the end is near for the American Empire. good luck

America's Fiscal Crisis: Tough Decisions Needed Now
      CLH,

Calling people names, is a refuge of a fool. Prove that Mr. Quinn is wrong, use something other than your OPINION to back it up. Frankly, your response has made you look a fool.

Ok, then if Paul is an Idiot and you don't agree with this article by Mr. Quinn. Then what is happening? Or are you scared? I think your current idea of how the world works is being threatened and you are scared, and you should be! Now what are you going to do? Call people names, make unsubstantiated claims? Well, if that is your strategy then good luck to you.

Open your eyes, things aren't right, and calling people names, is not going to achieve a damn thing. Use your mind, listen to people like Mr. Quinn and do your own research!

The Economic Cost of the Military Industrial Complex
      BFH,

You are a comunitarian! If you don't know what you are look it up.

I am a libertarian. I don't want to have a group of people that regulate me, with out my say. Remember what Paine said in "Common Sense"? Probably not if you spout out the crap like you just said, yet you claim to be an American.

"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer." Paine “Common Sense” 2/14/1776

Being an American is about personal independence and ownership, yes ownership, "I am" is the phrase we use not "ours". It is MY work, not our work, it is MY property not our property. I am not a slave, I own my life. I am sovereign and I delegate to the government I don't ASK government for permission they ask ME for permission! That is being American! Liberty is what America stands for, the shining city on a hill that leads by example. I said Example not Coercion.

People like you, that wish to regulate, and regulate and want for the common good and want to rule by committee and like averages. You know what average is? It is half way to terrible! I want excellent and you don't get excellent by making everyone average. So if you want average and you want community and common good and you want everyone to be equal through regulation by the Elite then go back to Europe or where ever you spent those 8 wonderful years but, don't go to Asia because they at least know what being excellent is! This communitarion crap you spout will not work there, they have had their chance to have a good long look at average and below average for quite a while and you know what. The Asians don't like it, who could blame them.

I want freedom to let people do what they want to do, be what they want to be. What is good for me is usually good for others.

Before you say you’re proud to be an American learn what it means to be an American! Read Paine, Monroe, Jefferson & Adams ( the guy on the beer not the president).

And if those aren't your ideals then you might not be an American. It is your Ideas that make you an American not your birthplace. If you love liberty and hate violence. If you own your life, labour and ideas and would never be a slave or steal those of others. If you take responsibility for yourself and your actions. Then you are an American I don't care where you were born! If these don’t apply to you then YOU are NOT one of us! You should then find your own people and do what ever it is that you all want to do and stop trying to OWN us!

We Americans have had about enough of this crap, we are unbeatable. America is an idea you can’t kill ideas. We can’t loose! Your system will not work, it requires control, our system does not

Those on this post that defend the spending need to read another book written by a Marine corps Major General and 2 Medal of Honor winner
Smedley Darlington Butler and his book "War is a Racket"

I thought like many on this site do at one time, that read the newspapers and believed what they were told and felt that they were well informed. This is a short book and worth reading here it is for free: www.horstwisdom.com/wi...

This is very relevant to an investment forum because we Americans are all being robbed by our government!

Chicken and Egg: A Currency Called the Oil/Dollar?
If you want to get rid of the "corporate profit problem?" Get rid of the corporations tax and make all their income flow through to the share holders. This will cause a very different form of doing business, because retaining earnings will be taxed at the individual holder level so all corporate decisions will be directly felt by their share holders. This will have the business effect of creating companies run by democracies not by the select few at the top. I suppose that we would see companies less focused on huge profits. It would be interesting to see what would happen.

I suppose companies would be run like most small companies are today. Maximizing useful investment to grow the overall value of the business and minimizing any reportable profit through this investment. I think you would also see more corporates open up here in the US to avoid higher taxes elsewhere. Lower taxes equals more profits and less need to pass those taxes/costs on to consumers.

Also people would be more likely to get involved with the movement to curb government spending to minimise their own personal tax as a cheque will have to be written when shareholders get to pay the tax that Corporates used to pay.

Two Moves to Make as the Fed Inflates the Commodities Bubble
Lets take a look at the gold old days when oil was $0.25/ gallon remember that was when $1 = 1 oz of Silver. As silver is US$18.30/oz it could be supposed that a silver quarter is worth in todays dollars is $4.58 FRN's so gas is still $.25 a gallon.

What does this mean, it means we are at a market price where supply and demand meet at a price that a supplier is happy to trade to a consumer at a price set by the market. The only supply that is increasing is FRN's and thus the reason for this bubble as Skjellifetti correctly suggested is the oversupply of worthless paper driving up the price of real value commodities (things people use to make real things)

Our economic problems today are 100% clearly on the shoulders of our intellectual superiors, the Government and all those brilliant people who set policy and get to spend all the newly created FRN's first. The speculators that are to blame are the ones who print the money and rob us all!

Jim Rogers: Fed Policy is 'Outrageous'
Rogers again impresses, although this is nothing new to hear. I think more attention should be put on the countries that supply China not neccessarily China itself. For example Australia, strong currency 80% of the worlds urnanium, Rio & BHP are both Aussie companies, why do you think they are the world mining leaders? There is enough coal in Aus. to keep the world warm for a hundred years and they are a net exporter of food as well, combinded with a sound government and financial system. You couldn't look for a better place to invest! Why does it always fly under the radar?

Four-Digit Gold Sets a New World Order
      Marxbites,

It gives me comfort to know that some people understand what is happening in the world and are trying to show people where to put the blame firmly on the shoulders of Government. A true Republican Jefferson warned us of this a shame he was not heard.

It is my greatest hope that the poeple will wake up and see that they have been robbed blind of the land their fathers conqured and take it back.

It was a pleasure reading your article.
