Shanna Cleveland is a Senior Manager at Ceres where she directs Ceres' work on the Carbon Asset Risk (CAR) Initiative. The CAR Initiative supports investor engagement with fossil fuel companies to better assess and manage the risks that significant capital expenditures may be stranded as the world shifts to a low carbon economy. Recent studies have confirmed that achieving the international goal of limiting global average temperature rise to "well below 2 degrees Celsius" will require leaving significant quantities of fossil fuel reserves in the ground. With the new Paris agreement in place, fossil fuel companies face more carbon risk than ever.
Prior to joining Ceres, Shanna led clean energy initiatives as a Senior Attorney at Conservation Law Foundation. Shanna’s work included reaching a landmark settlement agreement with a developer of a proposed natural gas power plant to limit and phase out greenhouse gas emissions from the facility, a first-of-its-kind decision from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regarding compensation for reliability through capacity payments, and a nationally recognized analysis of the impacts of and policy options for reducing fugitive emissions from the natural gas distribution system. Shanna has almost a decade of experience working with the utility, coal and natural gas industries.
Shanna earned her law degree at the University of Virginia where she served as an Executive Editor of the Virginia Law Review, an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School, magna cum laude, and her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, magna cum laude.
My background includes education in petroleum engineering and business and 15 years working with producers, midstream operators and utilities to bring oil and gas from the reservoir to the consumer. I understand in detail the full life cycle and value chain of oil, gas, and NGLs, from the physics of permeability and extraction to the economics of refinery turnarounds and utility load profiles.
I am interested in bringing focused, in-depth understanding to issues related to oil and gas investing. Industry expertise and a true understanding of how oil and gas is discovered, produced, processed, transported, marketed and consumed are vital to valuing investment opportunities in the fossil energy space.

Value investing partnership/hedge fund with a focus on value investing and special situations. The portfolio is very focused, and I typically hold between 20-25 individual long positions in common stocks.
I received my MBA in analytic finance and economics from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business in March of 2013, where I learned a significant amount about investing. Over the course of my life I've learned immeasurably more from a class that occurs one Saturday every year in Omaha, Nebraska. The class is virtually free of charge, and taught by two elderly men named Warren and Charlie. They teach me more about investing, business and life in 8 hours every year than a lifetime of MBA classes could, and I'm eternally grateful to them. I am also a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Illinois.

Seeking Alpha articles will focus on undervalued blue-chip companies or leaders in their industry. A contrarian stock picking style, along with weekly algorithm analysis of fundamental and technical data have been developed into a system for finding stocks, nicknamed the “Victory Formation.” Supply/demand imbalances signaled by specific stock price and volume movements are a critical part of this formula for success. Mr. Franke suggests investors use 10% or 20% stop-loss levels on individual choices and a diversified approach of owning 20-30 undervalued, unappreciated, turnaround favorites to achieve regular stock market outperformance.
