  • CapLease: Buyout Presents Upside Opportunity With Minimal Downside [View article]
I own LSE with a substantial profit @ $8.50. Would it be wise to look to add ARCP now or possibly wait for the deal to finalize?

I just hope that one day I wake up and find the ACTC has jumped into the dollar or more range so my many thousand shares will be worth something. In the mean time I won't buy more nor sell what I have, I'll just wait patiently and hope I don't die waiting.

  • It's Almost May, So Go Away [View article]
Why in the world am I going to sell perfectly good dividend paying stocks because someone long ago came up with this somewhat silly phrase. Where do I go to replace these dividends? In cash, in CD's, in Treasuries? I don't think so. I bought these things because I did my homework (do diligence) and I think what I bought is good to go. So for me it's keep what I got in May and use the divi's to add on dips.

You should have have bought a ton when it was in the tank around $17.5. Then you wouldn't have the guilt. My break even is $31, so you know how long I have been waiting. I intend to hold till $35 and then hitting the sell button will not seem so difficult.

5ban, what is BWP buying, if it is buying is it acretive to distributions? Don't forget this is the way that MLP's grow. They don't go to banks for money.

I sold 200 shares of SPH out of my IRA in 2012. I have owned them since 2008. I am meeting with my tax accountant in early April. I will be glad to let everyone know exactly how that comes out.

Alan, enjoyed the article. I too own quite a few MLP's in my IRA and others in a regular account. I have never seen an investment that has generated more articles and comments when it comes to where these things should be held. My personal opinion is that a good investment should be held wherever you have the available funds to own it. I am not one to be overly concerned about taxes since it is hard as hell to avoid them but maybe just put them off for a while, hopefully until I'm dead, then the rest be damned.

  • MLPs - A Reality Check ? [View article]
I too intend to live off the distributions. I cannot, however think of another investment vehicle that has brought about so much discussion concerning their worth or where they should be held (taxable or non-tax accounts) I hold them in both. Ken, just to let you know, I always appreciate your thought provoking comments.

  • Trading volume in LinnCo (LNCO -0.3%) ticks up to 1.1M shares vs. average daily volume of 869K, perhaps due to Jim Cramer's apparent endorsement via Twitter. Earlier this week, Linn Energy (LINE -1.5%), owned by LNCO, said it cleared an antitrust hurdle to buy Berry Petroleum (BRY) for $4.3B; the deal was announced last month and is expected to close by the end of June. [View news story]
    aero,
The distribution is not "tax free" it is tax deferred. I suggest you read up on what you are holding with a MLP. I know LINE is a LLC but the tax deferral situation is the same.

  • Tax Free Dividend Investing [View article]
I too live in Maryland. Those of you, who do not, need to understand why Maryland has a triple A rating. They are a one party State, democrat, they have decided to do anything to be able to boast about their AAA rating. To that end the sorry politicians are willing to tax the hell out of its citizens. This is one of the criteria that the bond rating houses look at when doing their ratings. I also have a large holding of NMY simply as a way of getting a small portion of my taxes back.
