iPhone Lockup and Apple's True Colors

Wait and see is the key here. If you were creating a new phone like this would you maybe be a TOUCH conservative? I wouldn't want to see viruses. Or apps that kill the system. Or flood the network.

You can still build great apps for certain domains (e.g. facebook's iphone application is outstanding) and I am sure that Flash and a real SDK will be coming.

I am more excited about using Dashboard widgets as a platform too.

I think it is genius. Now people are honored to get the rebate, and will probably go to the store and take that $100 and buy $400s worth of stuff (e.g. an iPhone for the wife, an Apple TV, ....).

Why I'm Disappointed By The iPhone

I love "open". That being said, I have wanted this phone for the last few years.

It isn't perfect. I want all 3G's. We aren't sure about tech details (Java installed? ease of working with new apps?).

What I care about most is that it is a fantastic device that gives me what I want out of a next gen phone. I have disliked 'smart phones' forever, and this has the chance of being the first to make sense.

Interesting. I personally do not really care about startup time, as on my blackberry I keep it up and running and just switch around.

I have found it far superior to using gmail via the mobile browser on the BB, and this is 1.0.

Tips on Buying Duty-Free

I have not done a study, but it always feels like Duty Free shops may well have less tax, but the goods never seem cheaper.

Google Is Still a One-Trick Pony

Does anyone expect Google Scholar to have anywhere as much traffic as a plain old Google search?

To me, the top sites are mainstream (as in, everyone wants to search, read email, and print out maps).

Not everyone wants the other things.

That being said, some of the sites should be doing better than they are (such as local).

Also, the search box IS the portal for Google. If other items do well then they can get accessed via that normal search (e.g. why image search is high up).

Skype Usage: Incremental or Substitutional? (EBAY)

I wonder about the future for Skype. I am able to use one IM client such as Adium or Trillian for all IM services other than Skype.

Currently Skype still has the name, but how long will it be until being proprietary means problems for Skype? Most IM clients have audio and video now, so unless Skype opens up and plays nice.....

Vonage, The Worst Tech IPO Since Pets.com (VG)

It is a real shame. I am a Vonage customer and really do like the service. There were some blips at the beginning, and real frustration due to the baby bells. In my location the local phone company will not route numbers to me unless you put a 1 at the beginning of the number.

Hopefully Vonage can pull it out and prove Kevin wrong.

Seeing Opportunity in Intel and Apple, Thanks To Boot Camp

Bootcamp is "nice" but it isn't what I want. I don't want to have to reboot into XP. The thought of my lovely MacBook Pro running XP bores me. Blue screens on my Mac? Noooo :)

What does interest me is the ability to run these in parallel. I want to open up a Windows application while in OS X. A bunch of companies are working on this virtualization, and that is truly game changing.

"I would love to buy a Mac but I need to run APPLICATION_X for work" goes away. Bootcamp does this now, but not in a clean way.

I will pass on the info to the india stock blog editors. The "subscribe" button is for use in an RSS reader (such as My Yahoo!, or a local viewer). If you have an RSS viewer, copy the subscribe URL and pass it in!
