When in doubt, hire an expensive nationally known consultant. Its a wonderful and costly CYA when you have no idea what to do and don't trust your staff. Aug 27 08:23 AM
    • Apple's Problems - Bad to the Core? [view article]
As an Iphone user I have been surpised by the recent software problems in releases 2.0 and 2.01 and 2.02. Its starting to remind me of MSFT software issues - it appears the software has become too complex for rapid and reliable support. I had thought AAPL was immune. It will be interesting to see if this hurts their image and eventually their premium stock price. Aug 25 10:02 AM

Actually you should blame the union that demanded the holiday. Tyson still pays for Labor day but lets the employees take the Muslim holiday as one of their 8 paid holidays. Aug 15 04:24 PM

    • Has Whole Foods Lost Touch with Its Customers? [view article]
Unfortunately Whole Foods is geared to the 'wannabees' or as they are tagged by marketing experts - the 'aspirationals' . I think when all is said and done we will find this group is the one that was the most indebted and therefore the ones who are really cutting back. Not good for places like Whole Foods Aug 06 08:52 AM
    • Has Garmin Lost Its Direction? [view article]
I am absolutely flabbergasted that everyone does not realize that smart phones are the killer of Garmin. It has amazed me since Nokia bought the mapping software company. What are these people thinking?? This application has been commoditized - one trick vendors will die. Jul 31 10:38 AM
    • Yikes, But Duh: Housing Bottom Could Be Two Years Off [view article]
They view this as a 'confidence' problem so they are 'restoring our confidence'. Shows you how isolated politicians can become. You've got 2 choices in housing - raise wages or lower house prices. Without easy credit and with a service economy it could take a while. Seems like stagflation will accomplish both over time. • Getting Out of Today's Bear Market [view article]
I'm not sure we actually make computers here - we may assemble them from parts made somewhere else - same with low end tractors - how about whole parts of Boeing planes made in China. I'd really like to see statistics on 'real' made in USA stuff. Also productivity doesn't create jobs - it eliminates them. The middle class here is in deep trouble. Hard to be bullish when many many consumers are insolvent. Jul 11 11:25 AM
    • Stagflation and the Limits of Growth [view article]
Ok - I accept the theory. Its the timeframe that is important. How much time are we talking about ? I'm thinking 5 years. Thats a lot of stagnation and pain. During that time the standard of living in the US for the middle and lower classes will be declining. Our populist politicians are already blocking new free trade and will have even more power after the next election. Sounds like a recipe for the next depression. Jul 10 09:01 AM
    • Bonds: No Inflation Threat in Sight [view article]
How about this theory - Investors have piled into Treasury's because many other fixed income investments do not make good collateral any more. So using current yields as an indicator of inflation is an invalid concept. Jul 10 08:44 AM
    • When Central Bankers Clash, Stock Markets Can Crash [view article]
Good collection of information - China is the key. As we slow China should slow - an actual recession there will cause the commodities to bust. The big question will be if China can somehow prevent a significant slowdown through domestic consumption, Lets hope 'decoupling' is a myth. Jun 30 09:22 AM
    • Don’t Worry About a Return to ‘70s Stagflation [view article]
The service sector is a synonym for low paying low skilled jobs. If anyone thinks that an economy can prosper when that is where the majority are employed - you are nuts. Jun 24 10:45 AM

    • Why China's Exporters Are Complaining Loudly [view article]
Look the Chinese have been very smart about this. Through a cheap currency and cheap labor they have used exports to develop a broad spectrum of industries that export to developed countries. Along the way it means they have built the latest factories, trained a workforce and started to build a middle class. As that middle class evolves they will have the industry to support it and not be at the mercy of the developed world. Ideally that could mean that they will be less reliant on exports. As that happens they will let the currency appreciate and since by that time they have killed off domestic manufacturing in the developed world - they will still be able to export. Apr 30 03:35 PM
    • The Financial News Shakeout [view article]
Speaking of media - is there any way possible to get Chris Regan and Dennis Kneale fired. Without the Fox station from my cable provider, I have to switch to Bloomburg from 11:00 TO 2:00. For what its worth I'm also thinking of cancelling my RealMoney subscription - I fund myself at SeekingAlpha more frequently. Apr 30 08:35 AM
