  • The Real Premium Smartphones Are Not iPhones [View article]
many thanks for the honest reply.
I had 130 shares until the day after the earnings and I have now cut that down to 20.
I rode a large unlrealised PnL for nearly two years so I know what it means to be on the wrong side of a trade.
On the top of this I sold 2 562.5 calls exp Apr 25 before earnings hoping to cache in on the decrease in volatility - obviously things did not go that way and that cost me some $500. Live and learn.

    hi Mr Blair,
I was wondering whether you plan to hold on to your Apple short or whether you are planning to cover it now that the shares have jumped over 40 bucks.
I assume you will have to take a loss unless you shorted the shares when they were above 570.
Did you limit the risk of your short by buying out of the money call options?

  • Apple Can Look Forward To A Tough 2014 [View article]
My 2 cents, all the companies that you quote were at some point destroyed by vastly superior products.
How are Samsung phones and Android vastly superior to the Apple offering?
Sure, they have bigger screens but arguably iOS and the Apple hardware are still better than Samsung and Android.
I said arguably and I want to stress that because they are two very comparable product lines.
However as an Apple shareholder I would like to let the audience know that there are plenty of Samsungdroid users out there with their massive screens who need to turn off GPS and Bluetooth to have a chance of getting to the end of the day with their batteries.
I have never had to do that with my rusty iPhone 4 :)

  • Apple: Take The Money And Run (Part 2) [View article]
Boy I'd be embarrassed if I had written one of these crazy Apple-fanatic-perma-bull comments back in October.
I am long Apple and down 30%, wish I had paid more attention to articles like these when I still could.

  • How To Use Options To Buy Fiscal Cliff Insurance Protection [View article]
I find your strategies very interesting and yes, probably too complicated for my level of understanding of options and the limited amount of time that I have.
How does this strategy differ from your previous outlined in your previous article the "The Ultimate Hedge Against a Market Crash" article?
What is the maximum amount of money you can loose?
I assume the maximum loss here would occur in the case of a spectacular market rally?

    thanks again for sharing this.

  • Dead Money Walking: Sell PC Players And Buy Apple Before It's Too Late [View article]
PCs are not going away. Have you tried doing anything meaningful with an iPad? Create a presentation? A decent document? A computer program?
There are countless activities that just can not be performed on iPads and the like.
Tablets are great for passive tasks like reading emails, browsing the web and playing games but that is about it, and it won't change in the future.
And actually, even on the gaming front, tablets can't match the raw power and graphics that "serious" gamers enjoy on PCs.

  • Insider Trading Sentiment In The QQQ [View article]
I am no expert but don't employees in large corporations often get paid in stocks and stocks options?
So it's only natural that every now and then they'll sell some of them on the market right?
Am I missing something obvious here?
