Where I live, gasoline mixed 90/10 with ethanol is less expensive than pure gas. My car gets just the same miles per gallon with either one.

Please explain again how ethanol has pushed oil up to $120/barrel.

Our government also spends our money on subsidies to tobaco farmers. Why not switch those fields to producing food.

  • The Case Against Ethanol [View article]
Bashing liberals and fainting sympethy for the worlds poor and hungry all in the same article, Wow. I do not feel it is my duty as a US tax payer to feed the worlds poor. The $3 billion dollars the US spent last year developing a new industry, Ethanol saved the tax payer $8 billon in farm subsidies. Twice the World Trade Organization ruled that the US farm subsidies undercut agriculture around the world. Farmers in Mexico cannot grow corn for $1.80/bushel. Now they are getting their way, I hope they like it. In the US we spend a smaller percentage of our income on food than almost any country in the world. And more Americans than ever are obese. And good luck feeding the worlds poor, that has more to do with political corruption than the price of corn in Iowa. Do you think the poeple in bangledesh can afford to buy corn from Iowa and have it shipped to them?

Another point of Mr. Wynn that is incorrect. Ethanol is only responsible for a small amount of the increase in corn prices. Grain exports have gone up significantly in the last year. When people in China and India go from making $1/day to making $3/day they spend most of that wage increase on food. But if you follow the sales of farm equipment to second and third world countries you will see that farm productivity is increasing world wide. When American farmers were dumping corn on the world market at $1.95/bushel and getting a $1/bushel subsidy from the government, they were keeping the rest of the world from growing corn. Evan farmers in Argentina and Africa can't grow corn for $1.95/bushel. What does gasoline cost today?

    Mr Wynn,
I paid $3.24 for a box of Corn Flakes. There is only 5 cents worth of corn in it. Most of your food cost increases comes from the cost of transporting the food to the processor and then again to the stores. Making ethanol does not take corn out of the food chain. They just remove the starch before they feed it to the cows. Feeding 10 lbs of corn to a cow to produce 1 pound of meat is more wastefull. That said, I had a steak yesterday.

How many of you are short ethanol stocks? Or own the stock of oil companies. I own stock in both. I am short neither.

    Dear crowdof ceerleaders,

Ethanol is not a net energy looser and the tax breaks it receives are a fraction of the tax benefits heaped on the large oil and gas producers. I paid $3.40/gallon for gasoline today.

  • Ethanol: Corn Hits New High, Verenium Wins Grant [View article]
Could someone give me a defenition of "Crush Spead?" Does it include the sale price of the biproducts. If corn is going up in price then Distiller's grain has to go up in price.
