I think most people associate wind and solar as the more "glitzy" technology. Everyone has a fundamental concept of sun and wind while most don't understand the way geothermal works or the temperatures needed to make it practical. There is a company called Raser Technologies that is doing some pretty interesting things in the geothermal field. They are utilizing modular, quick deployment power generating equipment from United Technologies United Power group that allows them to go from start to finish in about six months time. Raser's website has some interesting videos that explain how it works. Take a look and see what you think.

CenturyTel / Embarq Merger Could Ignite More Deals Between Telecoms [View article]
This is the worst thing that could happen to the shareholders of Embarq. One simply needs to look at the current price of EQ to see what the market thinks of this deal. The management and board of Emabarq became lazy and instead of running the company for efficiency, growth and long term success they opted to bail out and leave the stockholders upside down. There were many paths open to them and they selected the eaasy way out. Tar and Feathers not golden parachutes is what the board and top executives deserve.
Ethanol Producers Will Surprise Many [View article]
Cellulosic ethanol production may be closer than we anticipate. There are several companies that have a good story, some documented reseach and tests covering their cellulosic process, but no commercial size operation running. Take a look at BFRE, GFET and CLTH. All three have high hopes and promise, but may never get beyond the development stage. If you are lucky and have a high tolerance for risk one or all of these companies could make you rich or they could simply be smoke and mirrors and wishful thinking. You decide which it is.
Cellulosic Ethanol: The Next Biofuel Boom? [View article]
I agree fully that cellulosic ethanol is the future. As I understand the production process, one of the hardest phases is the first step, where you break down the cellulose in whatever feed stock is being used. I read a fairly recent Auburn University research report on this where they tested a proprietary process developed by Gulf Ethanol Technology (GFET) that greatly speeded up the process and was substantial more efficient that any of the current methods available. Is Gulf Ethanol just too early in the cellulosic ethanol industry to be on anyone's radar or are they really one of those early opportunities every investor dreams of finding?
