Some Positives, But Problems Persist at eBay [View article]
In bringing in these huge "diamond sellers" ebay's plan is to emulate Amazon. Only instead of Amazon handling its own stock and its own customer service with smaller sellers on site to take up the slack - Ebay intends to have the diamond sellers do that part of the work and then have large powersellers take up the slack. This is a no-brainer! The don't want the small sellers and any small seller who doesn't "walk on water" is promptly suspended or ousted! Ebay left this dirty work for its buyers to do for them - thru DSR's and negative that make the small seller helpless and vulnerable to scamming buyers! This all may have been the perfect plan in Donahoe's mind but he failed to realize how much of his company is built and is backed by the same small sellers he's been pushing aside and treating like garbage. Now he sits back and wonders where all the buyers are. I can tell you...they're on Bonanzle, Etsy, iOffer, eBid, eCrater, Online Auction, Craigslist and on and on! THAT'S where his small sellers/BUYERS are! ALL of these sites are SO grateful to Mr. Donahoe. HE himself broke the monopoly that was once Ebay and I doubt he can ever get it back together again. As time goes by you will find Ebay becoming a smaller and smaller company - perhaps diversifying into other fields - but never again will it regain the status it once had!
