Skype's Legal Drama Ends: Its Time to start Innovating

Yep - good article. Amazing that with all Ebay's lawyers they managed to buy only part of Skype and then were left wide open for the Skype founders to come in and milk them like this. I'd think it sad if it weren't so funny! They deserve what they got.

As for Ebay - seems they finally realized that if they don't placate the antiques and collectibles crowd....at least a bit....they're going to lose them ALL! About time but perhaps already too late.

Wish you'd write on that.

Ebay is also fighting one more thing they refuse to believe...their reputation is tarnished. People who do not shop on Ebay think fraud or mass amounts of chinese junk or its impossible to find things. these are things Ebay should have been working on for the past two years. Instead, Donahoe pushes his large sellers and expects people to flood to the site...that just ain't happening. So....he comes out with ads saying the same thing and impressing almost no one! His ads should be highlighting that Ebay is a fun and SAFE place to shop where folks can find new or vintage items. He shouldn't be wasting the company's money on the baloney he's trying to force on people. The man definiately does NOT have his finger on the proper pulse!.....and so I see a dismal holiday season for Ebay.

Ebay +++ LOL its all uphill to the top for Amazon. Smart management, good solid business model that they've worked on for years. Their success didn't happen overnight and they didn't cut corners to get where they are. They didn't try to bully their small sellers into being what they can't be - they also didn't try to get ahead simply by their name alone. There is no substitute for brains and right now Ebay is seriously lacking in that commodity ;-)

Talk about slogans....they could have had something all-encompassing. "From small mom and pop sellers to huge retailers, Ebay welcomes you" They can have that for free (and I do have a background in advertising!)

The madness continues. I hear ALL the new ads are aimed at the large sellers of new items.....yet those small sellers still keep plugging away and paying for all this nonsense and are getting kicked around in return!!! Donahoe and his crew deserve the failure they're getting if only as payback for the sheer "meaness" of their actions! Hopefully, some traffic will filter down to the peons in the rans...but they sure do deserve BETTER!

I'm an 11 year ebay seller and if you did some research you would see I am far far from a miffed seller and far far from the only seller with this opinion. Ebay has been dreadfully mismanaged for the past two years - they want to be like Amazon...no, like Walmart....no, like Cosco....no, like Overstock!!!!! By this time Bubbles the Chimp would have come up with a solid business plan! Each quarter has shown a decline in their core - the very heart of Ebay. They are not improving - they are just covering up their failure with smoke and mirrors. I made lots of money on Ebay - I would like to do so again. If they don't change their management soon they will go right down the toilet. Right now, Skype and Paypal are holding them up. Skype is due to be sold and Donahoe has already said selling Paypal is a distant possibility! These are facts I base my opinion on.

How to Value Amazon?

I have no idea how to value Amazon. I only know that I've been buying there steadily for the past two years and only go to Ebay on the rare occasion when I can't find it on Amazon. I know Ebay is trying to emulate Amazon...which is good business FOR Amazon because Ebay is so badly run and mismanaged that it almost chases customers to Amazon ;-)

They better pull something out of their hat - right now they're circling the drain no matter how much analysts try to hold them up. For the past two years Ebay has been its own judge and jury and has been purposely killing off its own business and alienating its own customers (the sellers who PAY them for service!. As a small seller I have no pity for them...none at all! They deserve what they brought on themselves!

So - the truth has unfolded with the current quarterly reports - Ebay: Net profit down 29 percent. Amazon sales up 28 percent! Profits up 68 percent. Their stock is going up and out of sight.

So what does Donahoe say to that? Well, he'll just have to destroy core even faster! Can anyone understand this reasoning? Hurry up and bring in more of exactly why Ebay can't make sales these days...bring in MORE of it! Well, Mr. Donahoe when ALL the small sellers are gone - what will your excuse be then? You won't have the small sellers to beat up and blame for YOUR failures and with Amazon's steel hard success you sure won't be able to blame your failures on the recession either! In fact, without Paypal and Skype Ebay's flaws would show undeniably - I await that day!

He means he's not destroying what works FAST ENOUGH! He has strangled small sellers with high fees, restrictions such as offer free shipping or be lost in the listings - no insurance - seller eats that too! It goes on and on then he sits back and watches sellers add costs to starting price and he wonders WHY buyers are leaving? When oh WHEN is the board going to come to its senses and let this boob go? By the time he leaves Ebay will be in such tiny pieces that it can NEVER be put back together again.

Donahoe - if you want all small sellers to leave, eventually they will - and THEN you won't be able to hide your failures behind them any longer! What will you do then???? I have NEVER seen such unprofessionalism!

Do you Ebay excuse-makers realize this company has been declining for the past 1 1/2 years? All the while making meager gains here and there that analysts hold up as "turning around" while its core continues to decline. During this same time Amazon, a company excellently run, is beating the heck out of Ebay - massive gains quarter after quarter - with no excuses needed! Get real people. John Donahoe overstepped the realm of what was possible for Ebay to achieve - especially with him at the helm. His disruptive innovation fell flat right from the start! Right now he's blowing smoke up your skirts - why? Because after all this time and all the possible real revenue Ebay lost...how can he admit he's wrong? This is becoming a sad sad joke! Chew on that!
