From The Lonely
Patricia,

Having read your comments on the subject, I have to say that they are quite mean-spirited and your attitude toward Ebay goes well beyond hating management. And hating a management team seems rather extreme in any case. But to each her own.

I think the current Ebay team has done a great job of undoing some major missteps by the previous group. "

Shows right there where you're coming from. Nuff said! As for trying to put me off my path - nope, its set in concrete - you don't like it, don't read it! I owe the original or classic Ebay the "noise" I make now. Nothing will stop me so safe your typing. ]]>

Outages exactly like this were once fairly common on Ebay. So, I assume that as part their obvious failure to spend money to fix their crappy, confusing site they found some band-aid approach to allow some improved functionality without actually fixing this problem.
The site was an outdaated mess 12 years ago. It has gotten worse as they constantly add on confusing hidden, complex procedures required to get any helpful information they're not interested in divulging.
A disastrous "best match" default search that brings up favored large sellers of Chinese dreck with 26 days to go before small sellers with a minute left on their auctions.
Garish banner ads popping up and slowing down the clunky site even more.
A general sense, also true of Paypal, management's main interest anyway, that they'll stoop as low as possible to squeeze every nickle for themselves and not put it into improving the business.
This outage is a fitting start to the holiday season for these shysters at the beginning of their lame, cribbed ad campaign, come to think of it.

List your 10 Items NOW PLEASE.
Remember, 5 in "buy it now" Format, 5 in Auction Format.
All Auctions to END no later than Nov. 30.
I'm guessing you have absolutely No Intention, as you can't be bothered wasting your valuable time LOSING MONEY on Ebay.
The very fact that SCOT WINGO Won't list anything on Ebay, would be Proof that Ebay is indeed a useless website now.
Thanks for verifying that for us Scot.

Maybe a Hacker??

eBay has p*ssed off a lot of people, and it seems possible to me that a few of them may have hacking skills.

Sad for the small sellers, but the thought of Diamonds losing large sums of money brings a smile to my face :)

What about those of us who are out of work and rely on sales to pay our bills? The search and access to our items was knocked out but the sale of items already bid on continued. As you may know, the last seconds of an auction are when the money is made. I lost money because of ebays incompetence. They should have shut the whole site down including ending auctions until they fixed the problem.

More of heartless corporate ebay greed.

Nothing new here - seller confidence has been shaken for the past two years! Does anyone here think Ebay cares? They're obviously too dense or too stupid to care about the loss of buyers and the fears of sellers - most buyers yesterday who came to the site and couldn't search obviously went elsewhere to make their purchases. I have no idea what Ebay's business model is these days but it sure isn't in making SALES!

As of right now (check time stamp) E-Bay is working fine, or at least it is with Safari, I didn't check with Firefox or anybody else. My sole use of E-Bay is to do the occasional market check on something I'm thinking of buying, and that's only if it's big ticket, and here lately I've not done a lot of that.

This Amazon vs. Ebay debate has lost all credibility. The anti-Ebay crowd wouldn't care what Ebay did, they hate the company and that's it. Ebay isn't as horrible as they say and Amazon is far from perfect. As for economics, Ebay beats Amazon hands down. It isn't even close. I find it curious that those who hate Ebay so much never address the disparity in profits and free cash flow.

I love Amazon as a company, but the stock is a joke at current levels. I'm short Amazon for this reason. And only this reason. It is a good company at an absurd price. Meanwhile Ebay is a good company that some just love to hate.

Listing numbers tell you nothing, if the search function doesn't work and buyers can't find your items. The sell through rate is apparently much worse than in the past, and that is just one of the problems. And what does eBay do here at the most critical time of the year for sellers, make some more changes that take their search functionality down. Sellers have asked eBay since the beginning to leave it alone at this time of the year, but to this long time seller (1996), it sure looks like they have again ignored that simple request from sellers.

For those uninformed on recent eBay changes, the Diamond Sellers are those sellers of mass merchandise, mostly from other corporate sites, who pay little or no fees to get their millions of items listed, thus raising the total listing numbers, while the small sellers get their listing rates raised, and their search results lowered to near to nothing.

Thanks again, eBay.

From what I can tell from my small little branch of the tree, most other small sellers are in a similar position. Nobody here "hates" Ebay - what we hate is management and what they are doing to the site. There's a big difference between hating Ebay and hating its management. I think we all know that with this stubborn new management team and its disruptive behavior the only hope for Ebay as a company is for it to go down far enough so that this inadequate management team finally and completely gets swept out! I believe that's the general thinking here.

A sad fact is that even if Donahoe admitted he's on the wrong path and tried to turn the ship around he would still fail. Sellers AND buyers have lost interest and lost faith in Ebay. Ebay has become a crazy, confusing place to both buyers and sellers! Ebay needs new management - a fresh start - one in which both seller and buyer are king - equally. Since Ebay doesn't sell anything but space, it needs to become "only a venue" once again. Selling space to sellers and mildly regulating transactions....nothing else could possibly save this company.]]>

This company needs to sweep out the present management - ALL of it and start with a fresh team....a team who understands online selling and understands Ebay's roots and how to stimulate those roots once again. Its Ebay's ONLY chance for survival! Yeah, they're a big wealthy company but they can't simply rest on Paypal now - nor can they keep sitting on the cash they've accumulated from the "good days".

The writing is already on the wall - Ebay starts putting ads on paid for listings today! That shows a tremendous crack in Ebay's armor. They are now desperate and trying whatever they can to have a passable 4th quarter holiday season. They are doomed! Donahoe needs to go! His disruptive methods killed a solid business model and put a weak floundering one in its place! No more talk about retail - Ebay was not meant for retail and both buyers and sellers are showing their displeasure by LEAVING!]]>

When you're sitting on a couple of listings and those listings have only had one or two hits for the week - then its cause for great concern! Where are the buyers? If they are all frequenting diamond sellers then Ebay had no need for my fees - in fact I would say they're taking my fees under false pretenses. For the next two weeks Ebay is giving collectible sellers a break.....or is it simply for some fast cash from the suckers who just won't stop listing? I'm thinking its the latter! Ebay deserves to go DOWN and I'll continue making "noise."]]>

As for Ebay - seems they finally realized that if they don't placate the antiques and collectibles crowd....at least a bit....they're going to lose them ALL! About time but perhaps already too late.

Wish you'd write on that.]]>

The eBay Ad Campaign Has Begun: Will It Help? http://seekingalpha.com/article/170922-the-ebay-ad-campaign-has-begun-will-it-help?source=feed#comment-746751 746751 "Patricia, 5.35B to 12.2B in Q3.... enough said. "
Out of over 40 million items...what do you suppose the sell thru rate is compared to Amazon's ;-) The proof of success or failure is in those numbers!

Scot

Good answer but you said it all:
"* women don't care for these ads and I believe they drive 60%+ of household $$"

I believe its a lot more than 60% ;-)

Ebay is also fighting one more thing they refuse to believe...their reputation is tarnished. People who do not shop on Ebay think fraud or mass amounts of chinese junk or its impossible to find things. these are things Ebay should have been working on for the past two years. Instead, Donahoe pushes his large sellers and expects people to flood to the site...that just ain't happening. So....he comes out with ads saying the same thing and impressing almost no one! His ads should be highlighting that Ebay is a fun and SAFE place to shop where folks can find new or vintage items. He shouldn't be wasting the company's money on the baloney he's trying to force on people. The man definiately does NOT have his finger on the proper pulse!.....and so I see a dismal holiday season for Ebay.]]>

What do you think, Scot, what do you HONESTLY think? As for those two comics.....I was expecting to laugh and I didn't. I was expecting to see an Ebay ad and I didn't. :-( What am I missing here?]]>

The madness continues. I hear ALL the new ads are aimed at the large sellers of new items.....yet those small sellers still keep plugging away and paying for all this nonsense and are getting kicked around in return!!! Donahoe and his crew deserve the failure they're getting if only as payback for the sheer "meaness" of their actions! Hopefully, some traffic will filter down to the peons in the rans...but they sure do deserve BETTER!]]>
