  • Will Big Returns Continue for Tech Giants?  [View article]
I expect Amazon to do as well or better than last year. They've been eating Ebay's lunch and stealing off their buyers. I'm an 11 year Ebay seller yet I shop at Amazon. I'm not alone there ;-) The difference between Amazon and Ebay is that Ebay is a rank amateur up against a sleek pro.

  • Will Big Returns Continue for Tech Giants?  [View article]
"The auction giant has been trading fairly strongly over the past couple months as investors seem to have welcomed the sale of its long-troubled Skype acquisition."

Okay, now I have to wipe the tea off my monitor! Ebay's stock is rising thru glowing articles by writers and analysts who cannot find their own backside using both hands! Never have I seen so many uninformed spout the virtues of company they do not understand!....odd....... sounds like their words came directly from ebay execs. The recent Ad Age article touting the wonderful "turnaround" at Ebay actually quotes Norrington throughout the article. This is SO WRONG! You are all giving an impression of Ebay that is NOT true. Ebay's core is failing. Their traffic is way way down...sales are way way down. Tell the truth because investors - who also do not understand ebay - are reading and wrongfully believing that Ebay is successful!

So...... how much longer do you think it will take before Amazon streaks past Ebay in unique viewers? All that "disruptive innovation" rose such a cloud of dust and disgust that I'm sure the oncoming holiday season will be a very very interesting and telling one ;-) Its okay though, Mr. Donahoe will have his diamond sellers to keep him warm...at least for awhile.

W.E. Heasley - do you mean that if 2008 was pretty darned bad and 2009 was even worse then whatever one does in 2010 will look good by comparison? That's like the old "lipstick on a pig" saying....underneath, its still just a pig. I'm glad I sold the last of my stocks a few years ago.

"eBay (EBAY): "We had some really good comments today by Donahue the CEO of eBay Inc. saying that he sees a turn there."

I agree with the others, Cramer, you are ruining your reputation by listening to Donahoe. Nothing Donahoe has said in more than a year now has made any sense! My respect in your knowledge of the market has gone right down the toilet!

  • What Will Become of eBay? [View article]
o.c.d. collectibles - I have to correct you on something:

"Ebay was an online AUCTIONEER. Amazon never was."

That's not correct. Amazon did have auctions years ago - I know because I sold there.

  • What Will Become of eBay? [View article]
"• What's been ailing eBay has been a consumer shift to fixed prices"

If I hear this one more time...frankly, I'm gonna puke!!

Ebay has been pushing sellers into fixed 30 day listings. Auctions are STILL beating out fixed price listings on ebay...somebody do some research! Its a fact...deal with it!

What IS ruining ebay is John Donahoe. He's destroyed the trust and faith of the small seller - who made the excitement on Ebay by selling their unique, rare and vintage items - and is pandering to big box sellers who sell the same garbage I can get in my neighborhood Walmart! Until analysts realize that they will continue to be off the mark as far as Ebay is concerned. Almost any seller who posts here will tell you the same story.

Why is the interest and the excitement gone? A two year old could probably tell you. Its being crushed in favor of big box cut and dried listings that offer nothing new. Its being crushed by outrageously high final value fees imposed upon small sellers in order to help subsidize the free listings ebay is giving those big box sellers! Ebay is in effect, KILLING Ebay!

Thousands of small sellers left the site - either to go to smaller venues of to stop selling altogether. Buyers are losing interest in what's left. Open your eyes people...this isn't really all that difficult to grasp...if you do your homework and get your head out of the numbers. Ebay has proved one thing in all these years...they are masters at number manipulation and you guys eat it up!

  • Sector Overview: Internet Stocks [View article]
I agree with redbaron completely. Sellers have been saying Ebay is doomed all this year and their complaints only worsen. Now it has reached the point where ebay lost so many of its small sellers of unique, rare and exciting items that Ebay has now almost become a strip mall...and not a very good one. Why should I shop for imported, drop shipped junk on Ebay when I can simply visit my nearby Walmart or shop Walmart.com online??? Ebay makes no sense and they are not even a shadow of their nemesis - Amazon and never will be!!! So far this year my sales have gone into the dump on Ebay - I've moved to Bonanzle.com and no longer buy or sell on Ebay. This is becoming the norm as far as Ebay is concerned but they ignore this and keep on ushering in even more diamond sellers of dropshipped junk! They deserve the doom they will soon get!
