  • The Journey Back to Ctrip [View article]
I owned some CTRP since August 2005 (13.75 split adjusted). Sold some over time but the remaining shares grew right back. Never thought of buying more because the valuation seemed high for a long time. You may be right in that this may be a good opportunity to add a little.

  • Petroleo Brasileiro: Reality Begins to Bite [View article]
The Bloomberg article is good since it goes into the details. Just saying that it's hard to get the oil out, like your original article did, isn't very useful since everyone knows that already. The Saudi Khursaniyah field is also very hard to develop, as is Canadian oil sands, etc. With oil at over $100, they all become cost effective?

Having said that, your trade idea may not be bad. Perhaps It depends a little too much on the Fed not cutting rates?

I am a long-term long of PBR and already bought and sold several batches. I still hold buy first batch, bought at split-adjusted $19.32 (12/27/2004), and my last batch, bought at $99.14 (3/19/2008). Personally, I would rather buy the dips then try to short PBR.

  • Smart Phone Wars: iPhone vs. Blackberry vs. ...Android? [View article]
I agree with Rob. Apple and RIMM are proprietary. If Google does a good job with Android and plays its hand right, all the phone makers like Nokia, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, etc. may drift towards using Android, making it the standard platform for smart phones outside of RIMM and Apple.

  • Select Chinese Stocks Have a Way to Go  [View article]
I have 3 of the 5 stocks you own (FMCN, CTRP, GOOG), and only recently dumped GS, possibly to buy back sometime down the road. I also like CHL. Nevertheless, I think your lack of at least a modicum of diversification will burn you. How long have you been investing in stocks? The "smartest guys in Silicon Valley" also started many of the internet companies that crashed in the tech bubble. CTRP is expensive.
