  • Stock Tips From The San Francisco Money Show. [View instapost]
A week later (9/1)... I closed SWKS put at profit, (sold to open .7, buy to close .25) but it expired $0 as SWKS closed above 55.
I closed TTWO (buy to open $1.7, sell to close $2.8)
I added AAPL Dec 100 calls as well as Jan 100 call. Both went up.

On the losing side, HLF didn't move so put dropped slightly. The GMCR call spread is still OTM. I will give both a little more time before closing the trade.

  • Apple: iPad Pro Won't Be A Surface Pro Killer [View article]
iPad Pro does not need to compete with Surface Pro 3... It can replace corporate laptops and desktops. All it takes is for VMware or another vendor to do desktop virtualization on the iPad, and instantly, any corporate applications are "streamed" to the iPad or iPad Pro.

All iPad need to make it work are:
    1) a supported VPN connection to the corporate intranet (easy to implement)
    2) desktop virtualization on the iPad client.
    3) server backend to host the corporate applications and the desktop virtualization.

This is where IBM partnership comes in.

Some of the short interest are from market makers creating a synthetic option position: short stock & buy call = long put. The market maker simultaneously satisfied his own hedging need and his customer's purchase of put. As you know, market makers are neutral.

  • Delphic Icahn tweet sends Herbalife higher [View news story]
it's not just HTZ and HLF but AAPL also pop higher the same exact time. I'm guessing it's a deal with NUAN (involving Apple buying it out) because that's been rumored since last year

  • The Importance Of Propaganda To The Herbalife Con: Met With Truth [View article]
My natural instinct is to stay away from all MLM or anything that smells like MLM, like Amway, Tupperware, Herbalife, and many others. (I'm not sure if Tupperware is MLM but those Tupperware parties turns me off)

I have no doubt that Herbalife is a fraudulent MLM based pyramid scheme, but to bet against its rapid demise may be futile, because the "market will remain irrational longer than the short sellers can remain solvent". Many years from now, there will be a TV documentary about the "rise and fall of Herbalife" and along with it, the "I told you so" rhetoric.

This is why Ackerman doubled down on his bearish bet but bought himself more time via LEAPS put.

Excellent article. Regarding 'sand bagging'.... companies always do that to rein down expectations, by under-promising and over-delivering, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Options pricing indicate another 8% move from the $135 range within a month so my bet is on a $135-145 Sep call spread.

I think that the timing of 2.0 is impeccable because it is likely to be among the most popular Christmas gift next to iPhones6, video games and the latest kids toys.

  • Apple: Sell The Stock On September 9th [View article]
This article has its merit... It's the classic "buy the rumor, sell the news" which no company is immune.

I'd add that Apple management must also know this and is preparing to counter this market behavior with back-to-back announcements besides the iPhone 6. So, I'm going to hold on to my LEAPS.

Covered call is used when you think it is not going down but also not going up by much and use key resistance as guide. Long call or put when you are convinced it will shoot up or down just before earnings. Own stock if it is trending up but not violently.
I used covered call weeklys when I think it will pin on a certain strike, which it often does. I almost never go out more than two weeks because time decay on weeklys is rapid.

  • With Apple Over $100, Time To Sell? [View article]
When doing a buy-back, a company either give its money to a broker, or find a big buyer for private placement, then have the trade executed without further meddling with the trade. I'm pretty sure that (for regulatory reasons) a company cannot actively manipulate its stock through options market by selling puts or buying calls. (we as retail investors want them to manipulate it, but that's not how it works)

A better way, is to use the money as a threat to short seller buy placing a large limit order below a key resistance. If the trade doesn't get executed, then even better because they don't use up their ammunition yet got the bears to retreat. (this is what Cramer at CNBC recommended when it comes to buy back)

on the contrary, if it can measure blood sugar on a continuous basis without the painful poking of fingers, it will sell like hot cake. If it does that plus other vital signs (heart rate, body temp, blood pressure), then it will sell like hot cake with whipped cream. If it also measures caffeine level, it will sell like hot cake with whipped cream and cheery on top. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

All of above features are either rumored, or already on other products, or as described in patent filings, so it is no fantasy.

This is how they will sell $60M+ just to start: different models with specific usage. A model for sports enthusiasts, a model for business, and a model for medical monitoring, and more to come as demands warrant. People will buy not one, but several.
