VeraSun Energy and the Ethanol Debate [view article]
Hey DONTCARE---Amen, baby May 08 08:31 PMEthanol Will Become a Fad Without Government Intervention [view article]
I continue to marvel at the spread of anti-ethanol Big Oil propaganda. In addition to the usual parrots such as Pat Robertson, Glenn Beck, and John Stossel, we now have the environmentalists piling on and adding their shrill two-cents-worth about how we're starving poor people all over the world with our profligacy. Biofuel is the most intelligent solution for power until we can figure out how to do it with other means. May 08 08:19 PMEconomists Blast Ethanol, the 'Nicorette Gum of America's Oil Addiction' [view article]
Very interesting how what started as anti-ethanol oil company propaganda is now repeated parrot-like in what seems every corner of the universe. The problems that ethanol presents are all fixable. Big Oil is afraid of renewable motor fuel mostly because the distillation process for ethanol and its variations is greatly simpler than that for turning crude oil into gasoline. Try to imagine switchgrass or hemp, even, grown on any available plot of ground in this country--no need for fertilizer, or plows, or any special attention--then being cut and sold to the local fuel plant. The technology involved to turn raw material into fuel is not much different than what bootleggers use to make booze. May 08 07:43 PMWhat Does the President Know, and When Did He Know It: "We're not in a recession..." [view article]
Wholeheartedly agree with jegan--G W Bush is the worst prez in my lifetime, and probably has ruined the GOP for many years to come. Almost every problem in this economy can be traced to his stupid policies, both foreign and domestic. How he retains even a tiny core of defenders baffles me. As for the coming election, I would vote for a steaming pile of cow feces over the Republican candidate. Thank you, Mr. Bush. Apr 24 08:15 PM10 Things Not To Worry About [view article]
The ass in the White House is most certainly to blame for enabling the housing meltdown. Not only has his admin closed its eyes and pretended the market needed no regulation, but Mr Bush actively jawboned Greenspan into keeping interest rates low in 03 and 04 so that he could keep spending on Iraq. Apr 17 10:09 PMDon't Regulate, Rationalize [view article]
As to specifics, any suggestions? Mar 31 01:51 PMDon't Regulate, Rationalize [view article]
How about some specifics? Great article, with a very solid point of view, but (please) give us more. Mar 31 06:24 AMChinese Economy Humming Along; Stocks Still Raise Concern [view article]
I have followed LDK and also day-traded in it a bit, ever since their accounting issue broke, and the shares went from mid-70's to low 30's in a few days. Try as I might, I cannot buy into the bear case for this stock. In spite of nothing but good news, people like Jesse Pichel and others continue to trash it. My very strong suspicion is that Mr. Pichel's co.(Piper Jaffrey) has a large short position in the stock. Am I wrong? Anybody? Mar 30 02:07 PM$3 Billion Ethanol Pipeline Coming [view article]
Good news not just for ethanol investors, but the whole country. Why is this bad for US taxpayers, NI123? Mar 27 08:21 AMFuture Shines Bright for VeraSun Energy [view article]
Hard to figure how to play ethanol in general because of all the negative press, which IMHO is essentially oil co. propaganda, strewn about and swallowed whole by many. VSE seems to have great potential, yes, but public opinion needs to do a turn (again) before the stock price will see much upside. Full disclosure---I have no position in VSE or any other ethanol producer. Mar 27 08:13 AMDoJ Approves XM/Sirius Merger - Stocks Jump [view article]
Abe---The price of the stock after the merger? Might as well try to predict the winner of next year's Super Bowl. However, an analyst with Goldman Sachs whose name escapes me now thinks it's in the n'hood of 11.50 long-term. I don't know his definition of "long-term", but I'd guess a year or so. OGD---Terrestrial FM radio not only is over-saturated with ads, but boring as well because of ridiculously limited play lists. I think people are rejecting FM for both reasons. Hell, AM too. Mar 25 09:56 AMDoJ Approves XM/Sirius Merger - Stocks Jump [view article]
Post-merger cost savings alone should rule out losing money. Also, now watch subscriber additions ratchet up a bunch. Keep in mind that the death of radio has been predicted regularly almost since Paley and Sarnoff started slugging it out in the 20's. Mar 24 08:00 PMHey Greenspan, You're Not Helping [view article]
Allow me please to connect some dots here: Dick "Darth Vader" Cheney convinces his sock puppet G W "Zippy" Bush, to attack a sovereign Middle Eastern nation, remove its ruler, and then occupy said nation until an agreeable and pliant government can be installed. In order to finance this adventure, Zippy jaw-bones Alan Greenspan into keeping interest rates low low low. This process started in 02 or 03, around the same time that the dollar began its steady march lower. No coincidence, that. Artificially low interest rates along with non-existent mortgage market regulation and new and inventive securitization of junk debt, combine to create a perfect shit-storm, called the sub-prime mess. Said mess, along with Zippy's utter disregard for fiscal balance(he loves those deficits), have led the country into a swamp. My question is only this: Why does it seem that everyone ignores the root cause of this--the stumbling, bumbling half-wit in the White House? Mar 17 01:59 PMTime for an Oil Change: Think American Alternative Energy [view article]
Somewhat surprising to see a polemic like this on this site, but the guy makes at least one valid point; namely, the role of Big Oil propaganda versus ethanol as a motor fuel. It doesn't take a great deal of brain power to refute all of the anti-ethanol argument, yet all we seem to hear is the Big Oil side. Puzzling indeed. Feb 29 10:21 PM
