  • Microsoft Severely Undervalued After Earnings Dive [View article]
'Sell the company and return the money'? So presumably 'they' can sell it for more than the market value?

The ability to run modern apps in windows is exactly what's needed and I'm looking forward to it.

Definitely you have a hardware/OEM problem; I'm running 8.1 on 3 machines and had run 8 on one of them until the upgrade. Absolutely no OS bugs (some internet explorer bugs) and I love the fast startup/shutdown. I can never go back to my old laptop still running windows 7; just have lost all patience to wait for a classic BIOS machine to boot/wake up.

  • Microsoft might abandon Win. RT; Nomura warns of Xbox losses [View news story]
Analysts throughout 2012: "IDS data shows PC is dead, Microsoft is doomed, its core business is dying, Microsoft needs to innovate and diversify".

Analysts in 2013, after MSFT showing no signs of death, "Microsoft needs to shed non-core businesses and concentrate on its core business. Innovation is costly."

Repeating over and over again the same claim (Xbox loses money and will continue to do so) doesn't make it true.

  • A Microsoft Spin-Off May Be In The Cards Regardless Of CEO Pick [View article]
MS is NOT losing money on Xbox. It hasn't been for more than 5 years. The whole idea of a spinoff is stupid. Is anyone asking Apple to spinoff its Apple TV, their productivity suite, etc. and focus on their core competencies of iPhone and iPads ? Is anyone calling out Google on spinning off their Android/Motorola/Glass... endeavors ?
The new reporting structure should shut the activists up - Bing losses won't be shown anymore as they get collapsed with Office 365 and other money makers.

Xbox is as much of an operating system as it is "losing money".

The 'moral problem' you speak of (cash hoards kept abroad) is caused exclusively by an asinine tax system. I'll never forget Obama's smirk in a 2007 debate with McCain about how the 'big corporations' enjoy a very low effective tax rate (by hoarding the cash abroad). I was sure then that he'd win but also that he'll do nothing about it. It's a good propaganda subject, but as such, not to be touch lest the propaganda loses its teeth.
Anyway, rest assured that the American "destitute" have a much, much higher standard of living than, pretty much anywhere else; they're also very lucky that they live in a free country and along with the tremendous opportunities, they also have the freedom to emigrate to all those other nice places with "equitable transfer of wealth". After all, millions other immigrants (myself included) could leave behind their families and culture and come to America to realize our dream, they could also escape the terrible American misery going the other way. Only... this doesn't seem to happen. I wonder why??

  • Elop reportedly open to unloading Bing, Xbox; cloud Office apps updated [View news story]
This idea of spinning off/selling the xbox division is stupid - so stupid that only MSFTs biggest competitors would look forward too. They might even have planted the story. "Sources tell Bloomberg..."

  • Microsoft's Xbox One: Too Much Talk - Let's Look At The Numbers [View article]
"Historically, the Xbox has been sold at a loss as the bills of material were higher than the selling price of the Xbox. The Xbox One, however, will be different from the Xbox 360 as Microsoft actually plans to earn a bit of money on the console itself."

This is inaccurate; it was true as of 8 years ago.

I use 2, one of them is hooked in a projector setup like yours; all I had to do was to run an extension cable to it. I'm using it mainly as a convenient remote in the dark while watching a movie (xbox pause, xbox play, etc.). The kids are actually playing with it.
