  • Nokia Faces Uphill Climb in Launch of N97 Smartphone [View article]
A removable battery is indeed a nice convenience. But there is a trade-off: removability does add to cost, and reduces the battery's size and capacity somewhat.

For better or worse, Apple placed priority on removing those drawbacks. And while it hasn't been widely reported, the company knows that the decision will cost it the highly-sought-after Economyst market. "We'll just have to make do with the rest of the planet", Schiller replied after a grilling by shareholders.

  • Looks Like We're Still a BlackBerry Nation [View article]
@tommylee: "...I don't understand why analysts keep on insisting to draw an analogy between RIMM and Apple or any other phone maker for that matter. They are simply not in the same league."

Perhaps so - "same league" is a subjective term - but the products are in the same market, and analogies related to their shared market are understandable.

I prefer the iPhone and agree with you that it'll take the lead, for reasons including those you mention. But making comparisons between it and competitors is valid (and will remain valid even when the iPhone is firmly on top. : )

  • State of the iPhone: Strong. Very Strong. [View article]
Tom B: You hit a key point smack on the head. With every developer and his hamster rushing into iPhone apps, with every headline blaring "1 Billion Apps Downloaded", Apple is building a massive army of iPhone programmers. And they're all going to realize that, intentionally or not, they've just learned how to develop Mac apps as well. Instant army of new Mac developers! The iPhone is shoring up one of the Mac's few remaining weak spots.

  • Apple Product Pricing Holds Steady: iPods, iPhone Sales Healthy [View article]
Some interesting info in there, TickerMine. Reporting the number of stores surveyed would make it even better.

(One complaint: For the love of all that's holy, it's "iPods". Not "iPod's".)

    Looking forward to more -

  • BlackBerry Bold vs. Apple iPhone: Two Very Different Experiences [View article]
I can't quite describe the article as "bull", as AppleFinland did... for the simple reason that the article doesn't say anything!

"Two very different experiences"? I'm sure they're different, but different where? How?

There's a brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-... mention of different targets users, without any further explanation, and an oblique comment on "superior" email in the BB, without any detail. And... that's it.

To the author: Was the actual meat of the article dropped somehow? Because I'm looking at some parsley and a slice of lemon, with nothing else on the plate.

  • UBS Analyst: Survey Shows 3G iPhone Poses Little Threat to BlackBerry [View article]
User 216485, the two iPhone demerits you mention - no removable battery, no removable media - are actually legitimate flaws for some customers.

But those flaws have nothing to do with Macs or PCs. Your post suggests that Mac owners score some magic means of swapping the iPhone battery and slipping in a memory card. They don't.

The iPhone works exactly the same - flaws and all - for people with Macs, Windows PCs, Linux boxen, abacuses, and/or refrigerators.

Unlike your computer, the iPhone also ships with lower-case letters. Give it a try!

  • Will iPhone 3G Cause RIM Customers to Churn to Apple? [View article]
@meh: Good to see someone standing proud with RIM, in the headlights of the approaching iPhone express.

"Gosh, BlackBerry, things just keep getting brighter and brighter here around you and me! I think that's wonderf-"

  • Apple's $199 iPhone Is a Game-Changer [View article]
Brewer says: "All the news about Apple is good now and all the news about Microsoft is dire."

SO true. That's the impression anyone gets from daily bits and pieces of news - but when you list Apple vs MS news stories side by side, it's really eye-opening. Like this: www.mactivist.com/wall

No one will mistake that page for a complete or unbiased compilation of news; it's no one-stop resource for investment decisions! But it's interesting to ask: If one were to deliberately compile only positive MS news and negative Apple news, just how short would the list be? (Hint: Very!)

While people (and investors) are picking up the "Apple is hot" story piece by piece, I think many of them are missing the scale of the quiet sea change taking place – with the iPhone, with media downloads, with the Mac in homes, schools, and even enterprise. That's fine with me, as I keep scooping up Apple shares in anticipation of the coming day when the world catches on to what's happening!

  • Corporate-Friendly iPhone Could Challenge BlackBerry - Barron's [View article]
@TheRealist9: Fortunately for Apple, reliable prognostications so rarely come from those who think "allot" is an adverb.
