Shares of Star Scientific (STSI -8.6%) crumble with a new SEC filing out from the company revealing it received subpoenas from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Eastern Virginia. (10-K) [View news story]
Well, if you sell puts, you take in some money, and your "risk" is that you buy STSI at a lower price tan it is today; but if you buy puts, you spend money, and only profit if the stock price goes down; as I said, if you like the stock, you believe it will go up.... and if it does go up, selling puts is profitable, but buying puts is unprofitable (assuming the same time frame). Since the majority of options expire worthless, I would rather sell an asset that will likely become worthless, than buy one. But more than one way to skin a cat I guess.
BTW I haven't tried the product but hear good things. You have success with it I assume? Arthritis? I'm thinking of trying it.

Meredith Whitney is a typical analyst. At $6.00 don't buy, but at $12, buy. Don't get me started.

Nice article on an obscure company with virtually no analyst coverage which I like. What gives me pause is the poor history of increasing dividends, the low yield, and non availability of options to Increase return.
General Electric: Is The New Dividend Yield Sustainable? [View article]
The question is not "Can they sustain the yield," as the have virtually no control over the 'yield'. The question is can they sustain the 'dividend." Sorry to be pedantic, but it is a real distinction.
Now, the Board may not be the best in the business, and no one can predict the future, but surely, they would not be raising the dividend if they did not believe it to be sustainable.
GE (GE +0.1%) announces a 12% increase in its dividend from $0.17 up to $0.19 and boosts its buyback authorization by an additional $10B, extending the plan through 2015. There had been about $5B remaining on the existing buyback plan. GE last raised its dividend last year, and has raised it five times over the past three years, after drastically cutting the payout in 2009 amid the recession. [View news story]
I, too, was looking for a bump to .20, but there will almost certainly be another bump in a year (or maybe sooner).
Procter & Gamble (PG +0.7%) gets taken to task in a piece in Fast Company over its "muddled" marketing message and lack of focus on some key brands. The question is asked on how many products can come under one brand name before the consumer becomes confused, overwhelmed, and stressed? According to the writers, the path to profits for P&G is through a simplified course of "one concept, one message" per category. [View news story]
