An Open Letter to All Airlines - Quit Whining and Hedge Your Fuel Costs

For those of you who say Southwest will be in trouble "as soon as their hedges run out" are totally clueless! Southwest is profitable because of their hedges, and will continue to buy more hedges with those profits and continue to be profitable and continue to buy hedges (get the flow here?) All they have to do is raise their already low prices a couple of dollars if they want to buy more hedges, and till have the lowest prices and lowest cost structure in the industry.

A solid company with a very bright future as the others drop by the wayside.....

Excellent article! However, 99% of "investors" only look at the hype written on MSNBC and would be lost looking at the reality of the airline industry.

Everyone says Southwest will be in the same boat as all the others when their hedges run out.... HOWEVER..... Southwest is still making money and buying more hedges all the time. As long as the rest of the industry follows Southwest's pricing lead, Southwest will continue to make money for their stockholders while buying more hedges to make more money in the future.
