      Let Lehman Fail
I wrote a reply to another post on similar lines to the article, especially re communist countries doing the opposite i.e. selling some of its national companies.

Takeover /bailout is never good. The Fed took a gamble on BSC to stop the tied and had to take action on Fannie and Freddie to save American creditability. But, action on BSC suggested more shorting on weak firms was profitable. After action on Fan & Fred can the Fed take on more? Probably not and LEH will fail, the risks are just too big (as the Korean ultimately decided). These two actions by the Fed has open the market for more failures. WM will probably not survive. AIG has a slim chance. MER and C, etc., who will be next? Foreign money is not coming with the global slow down and drop in oil.

Also, having worked for MN financial companies for over 10 yrs, I know top management only look after number 1. Sad to say but good top manage don't survive in this rat race. They don't care what is happening in their operations as longs as they get their options and bonuses.

whatever happens, it can't be worst then this...only way is up!? mkt cap of $3 billions - very tempting for the Koreans! Any other foreign bank that could sufficiently carry the toxic acids.

      The Weekend American Capitalism Died
too true, a sad day when the public firms are taken over by the government, this used to happen in communist states, (which are selling their parts of their national companies)

this cannot be good news but the markets reacted differently on day 1...when the hype is over all bad realities remain.

at beginning of the year I thought things were going to get pretty bad in second half of this year but this...

it does send one clear message that shareholders of bad companies will be left with worthless paper and any foreign organisation that is looking for a stake should get bargain basement deals!

Stunning Reversals: Is This a Market or a Casino?
as with all casino the house (CEOs) always wins...the punters shareholders and US taxpayers (all those live in USA will suffer from a weak dollar and inflation).

only way to win a casino is bet on the punters as they are sure to loose!

GSE Bailout Likely Marks a Bottom in Financials
just by printing more $$ does not solve the issues...

the actions really shows how bad the issues are and there is nothing else to bail out other financial firms...this also makes it very difficult for US firms to get "good" deal with their foreign counterparts...

its does keep US's creditability with foreign investors of US debt.

Hedge Fund Manager's Notebook: Lehman, Korea, and 3 Uranium Plays
the korean's are probably looking for similar if not better then jpm got for bsc. all talk about leh good assets totaling up to current market value, but no mention of toxicities of rest of the stuff.

also, what are the reason for sovereign entity to want to take over a foreign commercial organisation?

ING didn't to do well with buying up barrings, in fact not much of investment bank exists...since ING does not understand the nature of IB given it is predominantly an insurance unit

Down as with rest of the world, HSI is more representative of Chinese stocks.

Elections and democracy - not really required since HK is on life line from the China. Better not offend the life giver. Just need a system to keep local government in check.

it took us (Hong Kong) 4yrs to get back to "normal" from our housing crisis and US subprime mess is looking to drag us down again. for us, we need to pony up at least 30% of cost of flat and mortgage payments cannot exceed 50% of income before we can buy a flat. given almost 250k are loosing their homes every month, when will USA recover?
