What's in Store for Regional Banks?

This is completely anecdotal, but in my area the regional banks are very slow to move foreclosed inventory if they attempt to move them at all. Many of the foreclosed properties are not even on the open market. I can only guess that is because they feel putting them on the market would further depress prices and they would have to reflect the loss on their balance sheet.

The interesting question for regional banks is which ones will survive the coming commercial real estate crash? It is the area of the market that regional banks could compete against the big banks and were most of their liabilities can be found. The local NPR station noted that 18 out of 24 locally chartered banks have more foreclosed property in their inventory than last year. We'll see who is swimming naked soon I fear.
