Discover Financial: A Creditable Investment - Barron's
i'm not sure adding to permanent growing debt will eventually help discover or the consumer, at least in a declining economy
we've used discover for both cc use, cd's, and money markets for many years, so this is not meant as a dig to them; strictly a comment re debt use at this time
thanks though, interesting article

The Real Secret to Fractional Banking
in your future extensions of the subject, i'd also like your thoughts on the idea that inflation eventually usually leads to deflation
and how that might explain why some people feel it's worth having some $ in longer term bonds
it seems that the two forces, inflation and deflation, are both extremely active on different asset classes right now
and monetarily, credit is being reduced/destroyed, a deflationary trend; while food and energy, til recently, were skyrocketing
might one be lagging the other?
i myself am not predicting anything, but obviously concerned enough to be trying to watch what's happening, including interesting articles such as yours

re tax cuts, i'm all for them, as long as there's corresponding spending cuts
hey, and what about campaign & lobbying reform ? isn't a lot of the monies spent beyond what's available going to special projects few benefit from?
it hurts, but balance the budget
Obama Is Bad for the Economy - Barron's
spending is cut to match
otherwise, it's just like the irresponsible consumer, oh, that's us, spending what we don't have til we have to forfeit and bankrupt the big lenders that wanted to stay "just enough" in eternal debt to support their, uh, support of our economy, you now, jetting about and such....
