GT Solar Picks the Wrong Day To Go Public
I don't mind if the article is positive or negative, but I would like some more facts about the company, are they profitable? Who would the compete with and what is their position in the solar food chain? It would be nice if there was more content in the reporting. I did find it interesting that the company isn't getting any of the cash from the IPO, but perhaps there is a good reason for this.

SunPower Beaten up to Buying Opportunity Levels
Just added SPWR as a Long myself. The are opening new plants in sunny Florida with Florida Power as mentioned in the article, another thing to know about FPL is they are a leader in wind power in the US, a forward thinking company.

Long FSLR, SPWR, ENER, ESLR, ASTI
      Technology and management matter...

The Best Safe-Haven Investments, and Some Potential Threats
You can't be serious. If this is the brainpower that is short Solar stocks, I feel much better about my FSLR, ENER, SPWR, and ASTI longs. You should not put all of your investments in one area. Just because platinum was more valuable than gold in Dungeons and Dragons doesn't mean it is true in real life. If all your eggs are in the precious and rare metals as well as two stocks, you really need to branch out. Ford is up a lot today. Please think about more diverse investments, maybe 25% not in precious and rare metals. Just my opinion.

Great article. So ASTI and Global have a shared heritage? Do you think ASTI will receive a halo effect when Global or other CIGS companies IPO?

Nuclear Power's Second Coming Will Lead to a Uranium Boom
Norm keep beating the horse, because it isn't the 70's anymore. Gone are the days when one stupid "China Syndrome" movie can keep us from having the ability to impact world energy prices. There is a whole movement of younger environmentalist that surprise actually care about the environment and have a brain, they will support the nuke build out.

      Irony in an Interconnected World
"Our investment strategies have a direct impact on the real economy." This has always been true. It is the speed that has changed. What I would really like to know is what are the margin requirements and tax consequences for commodities vs. stocks.

Also I think Diversity / Social Investments is really in a different category than green. Perhaps you should start a couple of different categories such as Global Thinking and Progressive. Also what about Nukes?

Alternative Energy: More Attractive, But No Quick Fix
I was watching some talking head show and both sides of the energy debate were saying that the other guys ideas would take 2-3 years to get going... Well then let's get started!!! A compromise bill that includes solar, wind, nukes, and off shore drilling if states allow it should pass immediately! Quit the stalemate and the either or politics.

Buying Green Energy Stocks Into The Elections
For the record Clinton cut capital gains taxes on stocks and homes.

As far as speculation we need a level playing field with stocks, commodities, this could mean less regulation and margin requirements for stocks not just more for commodities. One could even argue that commodities should be more heavily regulated than stocks due to the impact their prices have on society as a whole.

One thing people miss about Nuclear energy and McCain is his time in the Navy and the large amount of nuclear talent that exists there. I would say nuclear power will be pushed heavily by McCain. But both candidates will push alternative energy hard, the question is how will markets respond to this. Will the candidates get into an alternative energy bidding war in the debates or during the campaign?

LONG: ENER, FSLR, ASTI, CPST, BCON, PBW, ESLR, BQI
Looking at: PKN, NLR, OPTT, BLDP

      Investing In a Resource-Constrained World (Part V)
What would happen to PAL if the dollar gets stronger? Also the validity and simplicity of a theory are not related. We know that the semi industry has done amazing things in the past, I have to think this brain power combined with the in production today techniques will cause solar to boom and boom.

I favor an "I'm All In" energy strategy that includes solar, wind, nukes, limited domestic drilling, clean coal, and the elimination of sugar tariffs and oil subsidies. Subsidies should be for solar, wind, microturbines, etc. But we should still drill in limited areas to take the pressure off. For instance I live in Florida, to I want drilling off shore no, but China plans to drill off the coast of Cuba. I would allow US oil companies to drill in a similar location (close as possible) but they would have to agree to clean up any mess they or the Chinese made. I would let them drill in ANWR, but only if they agree to the end of the oil subsidies and they would have to agree to sell the oil domestically.

People are more open to alternative ideas in good times not bad, when the stuff hits the fan people don't want to talk cold fusion.

There are other ways to play platinum such as PTD the ultra short ETN.

      An Oil-Driven Paradigm Shift?
Well said AlexS. It is simple you go all in. You drill in ANWR, you invest in solar, wind, and nukes. You continue with ethanol, probably with another crop. You hope for a breakthrough. You drill next to where China is drilling off the coast of Cuba, as long as the oil companies agree to clean up China's mess as well as there own. We should buy hybrids and plug in electrics and US car companies should built them. But most of all we should be serious about the problem and not driven by our emotions. Serious people of goodwill must address the problem and not say that more drilling or more taxes is the answer, you have to go all in.
