Market forces can also help. Palm (PALM) with its app store and smart phone, as well as ClearWire's (CLWR) WiMax in particular will help.

If I had Skype on a Netbook on a cellular network is that allowed?

  • Cash for Clunkers May Cost Up to $45,354 Per Vehicle [View article]
"According to Edmunds, about 200,000 old low mileage cars would normally be traded in, every 3 months"

The key word here is normally. Cash for clunkers was passed in non-normal times. It would have been better to find out the low mileage car trade ins for the 4 quarters prior to cash for clunkers and the quarters with cash for clunkers active.

Also just getting the public thinking and talking about getting a new car has to help the auto industry.

If the government is going to do something, I much prefer positive incentives versus mandates.

  • Nintendo DS: Getting Killed Off by Game Theft [View article]
"According to Nintendo's own data passed on after yesterday's NPD results, the DS and DSi combined in June to sell over 766,000 units, more than the sum total of all the other present-gen platforms. In particular, adoption of the newer DSi handheld variant appears to be accelerating, with 424,000 units purchased of the new model in June, versus 342,000 of the DS."

XBox 360 is also getting stronger vs. PS3

A big part of the DS market is different from the phone market as Frank Castle points out.

Bing is a huge success, Yahoo saw momentum going away from them, it is possible that Bing helped make this deal happen. It is possible that was part of what Bing was all about.

  • Electric Cars Could Dominate Market by 2030 [View article]
I bet a bunch of electric cars would have been sold when gas was $4 a gallon. I think we will see a lot of Hybrid and Electric sales going forward. I enjoy my Ford Fusion Hybrid it is a great car. If they had a Hybrid Edge with LCD like the Fusion, I would get one.

What kind of a huge exception is this "provided that consumers don’t have to buy the high-priced batteries themselves".

For the market to sort this out the choices have to be on the lot. You have to be able to choose between Hybrid, Electric, etc. and that means side by side comparisons at market prices. Some "free market" people didn't want the choices on the lot (see Who Killed the Electric Car), some subsidy people don't want to price things accurately (i.e. "provided that consumers don’t have to buy the high-priced batteries themselves"). They are both wrong, in my opinion.

  • Four Problems Facing Solar Power Companies [View article]
Anybody can contribute to Seeking Alpha that is both a strength and a weakness, at least there are comments.

    1) There are oil subsidies and ethanol mandates right now. Why should they have special status and not solar?
    2) So what if somebody has something cool in a lab somewhere? It is a long way from the lab to the marketplace.

  • Why I Still Like Apple [View article]
"The big problem Microsoft (MSFT) faces with Windows 7 is that the IT folks and many consumers will be very slow on the uptake, having been burned with Vista. Plus, it will require new hardware for many."

Actually people are finding the Windows 7 runs great on very old hardware. The kernel has been reworked. The is a virtual XP mode which will help it integrate into the corporate world. Windows 7 will be a major driver for the PC ecosystem. A Windows 7 PC is the path of least resistance for people looking to upgrade from XP.

The driver for Apple is the iPhone. Also a tablet would be very welcome and would not cannibalize their notebook sales.

I look forward to a real battle of the Titans between these two companies.

Long MSFT and Apple (via the QQQQ).
