How PHEVs and EVs Will Sabotage America's Drive for Energy Independence [View article]
Wish they had an edit button at least with a 1 minute time out. I would note that I agree that the battery sector is ready for a big run and that I am long XIDE, HEV, and BYDDF with XIDE as the biggest position. The whole sector seems under priced compared to other alternative energy sectors, in my humble opinion.

"If his engine meets current CAFE standards and averages 27.5 mpg"
I wonder about this assumption. Perhaps after cash for clunkers this is more true, but with the large number of SUVs and old cars not sure that it is true.
This does not take the whole cash for clunkers/hybrid sales at $4 gas into account, so say somewhere between 17.2 and 27.5, maybe take the average of these numbers.

I agree on Diesel, however about the 5-10 year thing the market looks to the future not the past so stocks will get there before the market, maybe way before. GM may be told to move a little faster after today...
Why is Axion Power International not on a major exchange? It holds the stock back in my opinion.
Loving my Fusion Hybrid btw.

I still think the companies producing the overpriced vehicles (Tesla and Fisker) are on the right track, when a technology is overpriced you sell it at that price, as it improves you lower the price. Early adopters rush in and help you get to a mainstream solution over time. This of course agrees with the argument that the GM Volt is not ready for prime time, but what about the technology from companies like ENER, QTWW, Tesla, and other companies that are more innovative than GM?
I just bought a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid and yes it may not have been an economically sound choice if gas stays at $2 a gallon, but I am enjoying every minute I spend in the vehicle, I bet Tesla and Karma owners will / would say the same.

When is AXPW.OB going to move to a regular exchange? I like my stocks with 4 letters or less. Does anybody have more info on ALTI they appear to be a leader in the field and cheap too, IMHO.

What about CPST and VLNC? Also the new energy bill that wasn't passed by the Senate and McCain talking about a "battery prize" may bring new focus on this area.

According to this:

In 2007 it was 17.2
