Buffett and Gates at Columbia – The Markets Have Bottomed! [View article]
i love these charts you produce Chuck, probably the most helpful tool i've seen for long term investors. It looks like MSFT is a reasonable buy right now, especially with Windows 7 doing great. My only issue is the sheer size of the company, very hard to get good growth with a company that size.

i agree Paul, compared with other Asset Managers, they are cheap as chips, should be around the $40 mark by now. If the mrket keeps creeping up, there profits will go up very fast because their costs are fairly fixed. They also have a nice research business that has been bringing in steady income even through this crisis. disclosure: long AB

Sorry Warren, can't get exited about these railway businesses. BRK is supposed to grow at 20% not 12%. i'll stick with my insurance and asset management stocks thanks

Earnings Preview: UnitedHealth Group [View article]
89 cents, take that nay sayers. No brainer really, they are still generating 4billion in cash which they use to buy back shares. With the share price so beaten down, thats a lot of shares!
Friday Outlook: Commodities, Global Markets [View article]
Chuckys not buying and Buckys falling, i like it David! I'm starting to believe this rally and now i'm starting to think all this cheap money could spark the mother of all booms in just about every asset class until it is reigned in. See todays Bloomberg about all the Chinese gearing up to invest in shares and posible sovereign wealth fund investment in US realestate. If you take away all the inventory, things could move from bust to boom incredibly quickly. Just look what clunkers did to cars.
Legg Mason: Earnings Good at First Glance, Ugly After That [View article]
agree LM is still struggling. I held a significant investment in LM but lost faith in management after 5 negative quarters and conference call shpiel that didn't make sense. They had a disaster with the SIVs and had to take on a couple of billion dollars of debt to escape it. Lets face it, an asset manager should not need lots of debt. i switched out of LM into AB, much simpler business, no debt issues or SIV's. Funnily though, since jumping to AB, they have reported better results than LM but LM has rallied much more! It interesting that the biggest rallys have occured with the companies with the most debt and shakiest earnings, do fundamentals mean nothing to todays investors???
Weekly Preview: How Stressed Will the Markets Be? [View article]
i'm thinking when the stress test results are published we will rally big time, whatever the results. Markets hate uncertainty, publishing even bad results removes the uncertainty.
