Will Credit Market Flight to Safety Boost Stock Prices?

Another permabull trying to rationalize the ridiculous. The flight to safety is the market momentum that trumps figures. As they used to tell me in business: figures don't lie but liars figure. The indicators important today is what is the reliable stream of income? Investors today have figured out that the professionals can't even manage the wire house's money, much less theirs. Ergo, dividends on stock are not guaranteed nor reliable. Like our Government.

Chinese, Indian Currency ETNs Launch

Last time I looked Chinese short rates were more than twice U.S. and may now be three times. They have to raise rates to slow growth, whereas our Gov wants every bank to get my money for free. Its about time somebody started to tap into the Chinese money but, if I know U.S. banks the bosses will find a way to run off with the profits.

WIA: A TIPS Fund for the Conservative Investor

Dear Carla: I think you need to open your eyes. The Government lies about inflation. They frequently move the goalposts to simply fit their objectives. The concept sounds good, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions of best laid plans. Ask anybody who buys milk, eggs and gas if inflation is benign and they'll probably tell you where to go. We are set with all bad options, while the packagers of this crap and that MBS eat at the Ritz on the backs of misled taxpayers and small investors.

You sound like the same guys always telling us how smart Wall
Street operators always make money. They probably do make it for themselves, selling the unsuspecting their packaged crap loans that the banks don't want on their own books. Trees don't grow to the sky.

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought. Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only. Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.
