Leading Indicators: They're Usually Late [View article]
The impact of lower gasoline prices on the consumer has been seriously discounted and under reported, even by serious analysts. Plots of PCE over time show that the bottom has been formed and we are in recovery. On a personal level, I am now "saving" about $200/month on gasoline. I am paying down debt and spending elsewhere, instead of sending this money to the Arabs. Multiply this by 100 million people and you see that the "gas" stimulus is immediate and significant.
