Saving the Economy with IRA Funds
Many people had and have good intentions of paying their mortgages. If IRAs and 401k could be tapped to save their home from foreclosure, I bet many would do it. The gov't could be considerate and consider this a "roll-over" of sorts if it went directly to the lender to pay a down their mortage so that it would be a tax-free transfer. If a family has $500,000 in a 401k - whats wrong using it to avoid homelessness?

Why Won't the Fed Let Free Markets Do Their Job?
Looking around town, Real estate offices are closing/consolidating, just like the mortgage brokers. Title companies, appraisers are or will be affected. The layoffs in the Wall street type jobs haven't really been taken into account.

I see the chain of events just starting - many of these well paying jobs likely represents a family with a good credit rating that may fall. Their ability to pay their "good credit" mortgages will also be affected..... How far will the train run downhill? When will it stop?
